Are you saying that a sequel was designed to make money from the people who liked the previous games? Who would have thought.

I come from FPS games such as:

-  the ORIGINAL Rainbow Six (before all of this bullshit Vegas and Vegas 2 stuff)

-  Codename Eagle (the predecessor to even the original Battlefield 1942

-  Operation Flashpoint (and its expansions)

The last COD game that was any real fun was COD2 (COD 4 with its introduction of PERKS and KILLSTREAKS totally killed the COD franchise for me)

The last MOH game that was any real fun was......well.....MOHAA...lol  (the first one)

The last Battlefield game that was any real fun was Battlefield Vietnam before the dolphin-diving in Battlefield 2 killed it for me.  I do have to say DICE did a pretty decent job on Bad Company 2 and the "total destruction" aspect does help prevent maps from getting stale too quickly.

In my opinion the introduction of levelling, perks, and killstreaks has been introduced to keep the attention of the ever growing margin of ADD-gamers in todays market and to convince us that we're having more fun than we actually are having.  If we're focused on getting that "perk" or "killstreak" we forget we've just died/spawned 19 times in the last minute.  When did doing that become fun for us?  Well it isn't for me, which is why as I said COD4 was/is the last COD I'll ever play.  MOH was killed for me by "Airborne" and the fact that they've now resorted to the same cod-type mechanics.  Battlefield I will give another shot when the expansion for BC2 is released next month, and other than that.......I LAMENT the destruction of the Rainbow Six franchise by UBI.......Raven Shield was the last good R6........RIP!

Hmm I actually love the perks and leveling system myself. I think people just like RPG elements in things, and it keeps things fresh a little longer when you have new things to look forward to and when you feel like you actually being rewarded for your success. I'm pretty sure they are the wave of the future for the genre. But I can understand how an old school hard core FPS gamer might not like them. Just understand that most people aren't old school hard core gamers.

I say "meh" to Black Ops. By all acounts it is a good game, and it does look pretty decent, but I don't really care about it much. MW2 was entertaining; the campaign was short and kind of non-sensical but still fun, MP was good, and the "challenge missions" (I can't think of the name right now) were also pretty fun. But I couldn't get into it like some people do. It was good in week or two long bursts, but then it got repetitive.

I would expect Black Ops to be similar for me; fun for a while but gets old fairly quickly. I wouldn't say no to it as a gift for my birthday or whatever, but I'm not going to rush out and buy it. Personally, I prefer the Halo games anyway (console excusive, I know ) and I'm enjoying Reach a lot more than I ever enjoyed MW2.

So is better to wait until the game's on the bargain bin for $14.95 before buying. Not worth the $60 tag then.

Depends on how heavily into FPS MP games you are and how itchy you are for a new one

Personally, I like the leveling systems as far as that goes, specializing my character is quite nice - picking weapons, attachments, etc. Just adds more flavor to the game when I can always play it with a weapon I want. Perks (COD) and kits (BC2) also help personilize my play style.. if I'm using a silenced weapon in COD, it's rather nice to take the Ninja perk with it

I agree with you about COD2, although world at war was in the same vein, I liked that too.  I'm talking about SP, I don't play MP.
