Won't Save Settings

Hi,

I have been using Impulse to load my favorite desktop themes. However, quite often, when I boot the machine I find that the theme has reverted back to the old Windows XP theme which then obliges me to open Impulse select the Windows XP theme, load that and then after that has finished I can then reload my original theme. To say this is very frustrating would be an understatement it's more like a GRRRRRR!

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you correct it.

I'm running Windows XP with 8GB of Ram and a 320GB hard drive.

Your comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Gareth

Define theme.

WindowBlinds theme? DesktopX theme? Theme Manager theme?

Dear Mr. Redneck,

Since I posted my question in the WindowBlinds category one would assume that it was a WindowBlinds theme. Therefore it is a WindowBlinds theme.

Hi Neal,

Yes, it keeps reverting back to the standard blue Windows XP theme. I use the Encounter theme so I don't understand why it keeps reverting back. I'm loading the theme using Impulse so I don't get it. In addition, when it happens to load the Encounter theme the icons will be huge rather than the smaller ones which I have it set for. I guess my machine has a mind of its own!!??  :\

  You should have started the reply as "Hey, Dumbass, ..."

How do you apply a windowblind through Impulse?  I know how to launch the windowblinds config through Impulse, but I have to apply a blind with windowblinds config.

You can get more with a pound of of sugar ... Arrogance doesn't tend to go over well here. It's not a Windows Blind problem but a Theme Manager problem so I found the question well warranted and just wanted to say that you did post this in the wrong place.

Quite possibly, and that would be incorrect because

I use the Encounter theme

Encounter is a MyColors theme.  Which is quite possibly the source of your problem and which is why you can apply it from Impulse (which then launches MyColors to load it).

I just now applied the Encounter theme on XPHome32bit directly from Impulse, cold restarted, and it retained fine.  So...

Is the XP 32-bit or 64-bit?  Results may be unpredictable on 64-bit and 64-bit has never been supported.

Are you trying to apply the theme from a Limited Logon now, and before you had been applying it from an Administrative logon?  MyColors themes won't apply in whole from a limited user logon, although the results I get are not the results you are getting.  If you're using a Limited logon, try applying the theme from Theme Manager (which likely will yield the same results) or apply the components individually from Windowblinds, Icon Packager, and directly executing the weather gadget.

Other than that, unless of course Neil has some insight, your best bet would probably be to start up a Support Ticket here:

Dear Dave.

Well I learned a whole lot today. I never knew that Impulse was a My Colours theme. I went and looked and sure enough there it was so I loaded it from My Colours. However, since it is also located in WindowBlinds I assumed that that is the place it was loaded from. I guess I'm the dumb ass. In addition, that is why I posted in the WindowBlinds category. So everyone else was right and I was wrong. I'll take the hit for that one.

I'm running a 32bit machine so I'm sure that will solve the problem.

Thank you so much for the enlightening information it is much appreciated. I posted in the WindowBlinds category since that is the place I had been loading Impulse from.

Thanks again!

Well I'm not.  If it doesn't work right when loading from Impulse I doubt that it will when loading from MyColors, but maybe.  I still don't know if you're running from an Admin or Limited user logon, if it's Limited then try loading the pieces individually through Windowblinds and Icon packager, that's how I load the MyColors themes on Limited users.

And ya, the piece of the theme located in the Windowblinds directory is what ultimately gets loaded up for the Windowblinds piece, so you're not particularly wanting to delete that.

Here's hoping you're fixed up.
