fighting a starbase question

fighting a starbase question

what if they are positioned right next to where your forces will jump into?

Ok so here is the situation: Im the TEC (with 1 TEC ally and 2 Vasari allies) against 4 Advent enemies. So Im still stuck on my home system because the path to the sun where I can jump from is blocked by a planet owned by one of the Advent foes. Normally this wouldnt be so bad, but its bad because they put a SB right next to where my invasion force would jump into. Not to mention, there are numerous capital ships of various sorts, including 2 Revelation-class ships and 3 Radiance-class ships. And a ton of homing mines. Ive been dealing with the mines by sending 10 or so scouts to trigger the mines, but that still leaves the SB and the CS left. Im worried because my ships would be assaulted as soon as they jump in, which means my Ogrov's cant do much damage before they are toast. They also have a ton of fighters and bombers and other various types of smaller frigates.

My fleet right now (I have about 7-8 planets and a HUGE metal and crystal industry so I can sell it and get a lot of money and ships):

35 kodiak cruisers

3 Kol CS

2 Sova CS

1 Marza CS

2 Dunov CS

1 Akkan CS

6 repair ships (IDK what they are called- something Hoshikoto or s/t)

10 LRM frigates

I think Im forgetting something but this is it for now. I havent yet made the Ogrov cruisers yet, but I plan on making a bunch, maybe a dozen. I need to take down that SB as fast as I can! Im actually thinking about making a huge fleet of them, then just sending them all in as a suicide mission to damage the SB as much as possible before going in. After all, I can afford it.

Anyone have any better ideas on how to fight a SB when its right next to where your ships will jump to? Losing two dozen Ogrovs plus many more before a big fight doesnt seem like something I want to do.

Y'know, keep saying "get them to level 6" but thats kinda impossible for me. My only way to expand and get my ships any XP is to fight this starbase.

I would have fought this battle last week but ive been incredibly busy as of late.

No, it's not...

You seem to be forgetting that you're using Distant Stars...  ;)

Simply buy the research that allows you to train your Caps to lv. 6... Buy it, train them, kick the AI's ass!

Holy crud I need to take a second look!

Well, I've been thinking a little...  I'd go by:

# Training the caps to lv. 6, then place an starbase (with lv. 2 Self-Destruct! }:)    ) at the edge of your gravity well. (about the same position as the Advent's)

# Trick the AI by moving your fleet to your other world, in a position ready to jump back.  *_*

# Once the AI sends his fleet to your world, bring in your caps at the edge of the gravity well  (To get more XP) and then, before enemy shield migration gets too high, you self destruct the SB.    }:)

(This would leave only some damaged caps, which your own caps easily can handle)

# Then you go straight to his world, (using an akkan with Armestice would be wise) get the ogrovs in position, and nuke the hell out of  that undefended SB!

Of course, this involves the sacrifice of 1 (2 if you have to schuttle your SB to build the new one) starbases, but, I'd say It's a safe bet, unless the AI attacks before it's constructed & upgraded. If you pull it off, the enemy fleet should pop like...  ehhh...  Popcorns!

Good idea, but right now my income has slowed to a crawl so I cant afford do do your idea. At least now I have time to play, hopefully tonight or tomorrow I'll make a move, Ill probably jump to a neighboring planet, wait for the AI to attack, then jump in and defeat them.

UPDATE: Ok so I jumped all my ships except the Percherons, and sure enough, once the Advent saw that my ships were gone they jumped in. Luckily my ships were on standby so both fleets reached my planet at the same time. A huge battle erupted, but the Advent fled before I could do any real damage. I think all I did was take down a few frigates, but I didnt have time to dent their Caps. Ah well. I just sent a recon team to scout out enemy numbers and they have dwindled, probably didnt feel like keeping too many ships there, so Im assembling my recon team to detonate all those mines, then I will jump in, use armistice, then blast them to pieces. Meanwhile I will make more Kodiaks- those things are amazing.

Update-

Wow, that was a fail. I repeated what I did before. They took the bait again, and retreated. This time I followed them back to their planet. I got massacred because of a huge surprise backup fleet that was waiting for me. And a few Cleansing Brilliances. They had a phase jump inhibitor and i lost many ships, including my Akkan and Dunovs. I jumped back to my planet and they followed me. The resulting battle was my entire fleet destroyed, and the enemy fleet proceeded to ravage my planets. Game over.

Methinks I need to have fewer enemies and fewer planets.

I started a new game with only 30 or so planets so hopefully this will go better.

Ouch! That's nasty!  :'(

Well, good luck on the new game, and remember, a PJI can be an awesome part of any trap/ambush, sadly, the AI did it on you and not the other way around...   :(

I'm gonna start up a new game of my own now, the AI won't know what hit it!   }:) :borg:
