Testament (And Help) to the Writers

Thanks a lot!

Welcome, one and all, to this thread. The purpose of this thread is to put life back into this forum. As I am sure many of you have noticed, there has been a gradual dissaperance of writers. Threads left unfinished (X( ), readers finally abandoning great posts. The Play by council threads (and "AAR of a Tyrant") have breathed more life into the forum, but that is just a temporary fix. If we don't do something, soon our forum will be empty again(once the PBC craze is done). I also think that a major reason writers don't finish, or even start, their AARs is because they have no idea how to continue. I know that is why I stopped one of my first threads. So, this thread is for prospective writers to pitch ideas and help each other out. An example would be, Writer A has no idea how to work an event in to his/her story. Writer A would post on this thread, "I just had a random event that I can't figure out how to work into my story. My thread is _(Link to Thread)_ and the event I am having trouble with is _____(Describes Event)________."

Then, after reading Writer A's AAR and thinking about it, Writer B might have an idea about how to fix the problem. Writer B would then QUOTE Writer A's post and describe how he/she would work the event in. If writer A likes the idea, then problem solved! No more half-finished AAR's and a happy (and Active) Forum.

Welcome, I am TMS2224. Please pitch any idea, no matter how radical. Just remember, your idea might strike someone else as smart  *acts amazed*  and they might use it. *8(| *

This link might actually be helpful:

DA Combat System

Although primarily a description of how the DA (and TA) combat system works, it also gives an explanation for the 'flavor' of combat in the game. The first example (Arceans vs. Torians) might be useful for any writers who are putting in a space battle scene based on a battle from an actual game.

I think the fiction writing is slowing down just because the newness is off the game.  This invariably happens with every title.  Perhaps once we get the new update, things will pick up a bit when some new players get in the game?

I've been meaning to write another piece of short fic.  Just haven't found the time.

Certainly, that's the reason. The annoying part about it is the way most AARs (factual ones, too, it seems) just drop off completely. It seems the least the author could do would be to post an epilogue about how the game turned out, or where the story would have gone if it was pure fiction.

Way of the world, I suppose.

That's why I rarely get involved with an AAR.  I rather write little snapshots of life in a GalCiv universe, like my first and only (so far  ) Vignettes.  That way, if I never get back to writing another story, the reader isn't left hanging.

Still, all in all, GalCiv II still has a remarkably active community considering how old the game is.

By the way, the old IGN articles on the races that came out before DL was released can be a good source for background details (for instance, there's a description of the canonical Terran Alliance government structure). It's not clear how many of them still exist, but the GalCiv 2 wiki has reproduced most of the information in its major race descriptions. Kind of neat.
