Mana disappears during combat

Been having a real issue with my Sov and Champions losing mana for no apparent reason when a battle initiates.  I can go into a battle with full mana on my Sov, say 100, and then go to cast a spell and suddenly, he has 7!!  This can sometimes be a real disaster when it just happens to be the rival Sov's main army!  Unless there happens to be some tech or spell I am unaware of like Drain Mana that can be put on your cities, was just wondering if it has been an issue with others.  Haven't really seen any posts on it, although I certainly could have missed any.  Worst thing is that even if I survive the battle, the mana is still gone.  Let me tell you that is one missing chunk of mana to regain.

This has been happening since 1.08 though for me (and most people I've read posts from) it only happens to non-sovereign units and generally it's after a battle ends, also it's normally set to 0.  I had a child go from over 1,000 mana to 0 without ever casting a spell... made me VERY unhappy.

Basically what is happening is that if you do tactical combat with several units that have mana, all of the units other than the "leader" will have their mana reset to 0 at the end of the combat. I've tested this quite a bit. So if you look at your stack the very first person is immune to this (this is why it doesn't happen to your Sovereign, he/she is always the leader of the stack), but any other unit in the stack can go to zero after the combat. This even happens to summoned creatures, sions, etc. Anything with mana. The only way to work around this bug is to either never do tactical combat, or to only have one unit with mana in your stack (and they need to be the leader of the stack). You can tell which one is the leader because the stack will be names "X's Army" and their portrait will be first in the lineup.

Thanks for the input.  I REALLY like having 2 or 3 mages in my armies, but if they will just lose most their mana anyway, I might try just using 1.  Thanks again for the help!!

I fixed a similar issue to this last week or the week before, but I'll look into this presently and see what I can see.

I think I've found the issue, and it will fix the case where at least one unit will have its mana zero'ed out. If you have any cases where multiple units are losing mana then please let me know. I'll continue tinkering with the mana in tactical to try and make sure there are no other issues on my end.

Thank you! I'm pretty sure it happens to multiple units at once but will not have access to my save games until tomorrow. Also it is hard to tell on the elementals since you can't see their current mana anywhere except during tactical combat.

Will the fix go in next patch (1.09)? or can we get a hotfix up in here? :)

Hotfixes can be risky business (as anyone who saw what went down on Saturday might attest to) and doubly risky on a Friday when we won't be here to put out any fires. I know that I for one do not want to wake up to angry messages tomorrow morning in case something gets slipped in during our haste. That being said the wait for 1.09 shouldn't be terribly long, and you can expect the fixes then. In the meantime I apologize for the inconvenience.

No worries, it is annoying but can be micromanaged around for the most part. It's the people who don't read the forums who are probably the most frustrated. No need to apologize, keep up the good work! :)

Glad to see this is getting some love from Stardock, hadn't seen many posts from you guys about it yet. This and the archery bug were a real pain when .08 first hit. Glad to see that those will both be a thing of the past soon, and glad to see that you guys aren't going to drop any more weekend hotfixes and then leave us out to dry over a weekend. As much as I want fixes now, now now, I would much rather wait a few extra days for a quality patch or at least a patch that can be hotfixed quickly.

Thanks for the continued hard work!

Hey!!  Thanks for looking into this and making the fix.  Really appreciate it.  And like Gyb wrote, no worries.  Think it might have been why I always liked to have at least 3 mages in an army!!  Sure is awesome to get such a quick response to an issue.  Just want everyone there to know how much I, and I'm sure everyone else appreciates the effort the team puts out for all us.  Thanks again!!  Well.......... back to the efforts.  Sweet 'ol Prince Billy Bubba just came of age!  Time to throw him into the fray.....................

THis happens to me TOO frequently.  It's really a nasty surprise when you have a lareg group of rangted against your squishy mages and teh mages are EMPTY!

Also, I can't seem to load saved games any more? the screen just freezes and then I have to restart the whjole PC to get out of it.  ANy odeas on this?

Thanks,

If you have any wonky save games see the posts on here about linking them to us. I'd be happy to take a look.

Do you NEED examples or just WANT examples?  If you really need them, I'll try to dig one out of my save files.  It was happening constantly in my last game.

I guess if I had a gun to my head I'd say NEED (no part of me WANTS to see bugs any day of the week) so we can squash this killer once and for all.
