Kings Bounty: Crossworlds

Any idea if Impulse is gonna offer this on release day?

Impulse has tended to have good relations with 1c, or at least carried a lot of their titles. We'll see; I hope so. I must admit I'm not THAT keen on Crossworlds, though, it seems a bit lackluster when it mainly adds three arenas and little to no story.

Why oh why put StarForce Online Activation to this great game. Would have bought it if there wasn't that hideous DRM.

Don't know for sure, but if its like the previous two versions (legends and AP) like the US and European versions shouldn't have starforce on it.  I'm holding off purchasing a couple days myself, though, to try to get confirmation on this.

The game does use StarForce online activation.  This version doesn't install or use any drivers, it's just an online activation check. The game allows 3 activations w/deactivations.

Thats a relief that there's no StarForce install.

Crap, i have tied to download it twice and its not regerstering Armored princess installed.  But on impluse the icon for armored princess vanashes when i try download crossroads.   When i start up cossroads its booting up armored princess wioth out the expantion.  I have already uninstalled armored princess and am trying a 3rd time.  If it fails again will I be locked out?  If I am locked out will I be eligle for a refund?  There is no notice that I was only alowed 3 installs. If there was I would not of puchaced this expantion.   I Have alread emailed support.  anyone else having a similer issue?

I want to add a edit to this.  I see it now says 3 activations but in the pre-order it did not say anything of the sort.

3rd install worked.. boy that was a mess to do.  Activation was a manual imput not an install count.

Have anyone actually checked if hidden drivers gets installed from Starforce for this game?

Hidden drivers are not installed - Impulse can't install drivers (and yes, we did look anyway). ;)

Armored Princess will disappear from Impulse once Crossworlds is installed because Crossworlds overwrites Armored Princess. This is normal and you will be able to access Armored Princess from the Crossworlds main menu.

It seems the Impulse version includes Starforce protection but the Steam version does not :(

Is there any plan to offer a Starforce-free version of this game or the Platinum pack in the future? I would really rather get this game on Impulse.

No, 1C won't provide us with a non-Starforce version of the game.

Okay, you said that there's 3 activations with 10 deactivations. How exactly does that work? I mean take for example, if I purchase the Platinum Pack and install it, I already use 1 activation. If I happen to uninstall it at the same day, I use up 1 deactivation. So after all that, I only have 9 deactivations left?

If so, you just lost another customer.

KB: 1C has a post I'll look for responding to a similar question on their forum (I'll look to link it later) but the key point I took away was that 1 "activation" is not the same thing as "1 installation" (similarly for deactivations - a deactivation isn't necessarily an uninstall).  If you install on multiple computers, those would likely count as activations.  StarForce and similar DRM schemes try to tie an install to a computer and/or a user.  They aren't just counting the number of times you run the intaller/uninstaller routines.

I'd ask Stardock to confirm if this is relevant to the StarForce used here:

Thanks for replying Aesir. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you see it), I'm still eyeing the Pack everyday in some hope to finally find the courage to purchase it and find out what the activations/deactivations actually mean. I've been tricked by EA before (Crysis: WARHEAD, SPORE, etc.) and I'd really wouldn't want to lose a single activation/deactivation for the games that I purchase.

I look forward to seeing a concrete explanation of this Starforce protection scheme, and how the activation and deactivations work.

Hi All,

Here is the thread where I quized 1C about the deactivations.  The thread also talks about the activations as well.  My posts and the answers I received can be found at the end of page 2 of the thead here, http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=16519 .   There is another thread on the boards where the admins talk about supplying additional activations if needed upon proof of purchase.

To summerise all of this info for those who don't want to check out the threads: 3 activations means you can install the game on three different computer systems. Once installed on a system, you can uninstall, reinstall as many times as you like on that same system, provided you haven't made any major hardware or OS changes.  If you have the game may not work provided on how many activations you have left. If you've used all your activations you need to deactivated the game, to free up an activation and then reactivate it.

The administrators, moderators at the 1C forums were very clear that they haven't had any problems in the past in providing additional activations/deactivations if needed, but stated that they would need proof of purchase.  Their explanations satisfied me, and I've purchased the game from Impluse.

Hope this helps,

Raven

Okay, I've finally took the initiative to test it out myself. It seems that while the number of activations are limited, so are the number of deactivations. I'm now down to 2 activations and 9 deactivations.

Yes, my activation DID NOT get re-claimed as people would say. Activations decrease every time you activate. Deactivations apparently decrease every time you deactivate.

So apparently this game's utility ticks down each time you happen to install a service pack, or opt to install on a laptop (as it is your additional workstation away from a workstation).

Now its easy to claim how quick it would be to get a new set of deactivations, but for what purpose? So that someone can get a copy of my proof of purchase, which includes my financial information and and my mailing address?

Pfft. Pass.

I wish I just stuck with King's Bounty - The Legend instead. Just got one upped again by another gaming company. Only this time, it's a Russian company.

Removing Crossworlds permanently till the DRM gets patched out.

I'm doing this as a service to all other potential customers who are thinking about shelling out for the ~30 bucks price tag for the Plat pack without fully understanding the DRM scheme (which even Starforce's comprehensive FAQ is aptly designed NOT to DIVULGE these little details). Do yourself a favor and avoid the headaches.

Edit: Activation tested.

I hear there is a new patch out for Crossworlds, that finally adds proper support for 16:9 resolutions among other things. Any word on when Impulse version gets the patch?

Wow, this sounds like a train wreck. I have been wanting to pick up the games from the King's Bounty series for quite some time, and today with the platinum pack on sale I figured it was the right time to do it. I was literally hovering mu mouse over the "Add to Cart" button when "StarForce" caught my eye. I didn't think that digital services like Impuse and Steam even used that kind of stuff. "Limited deactivations?" no thanks.
