[eWIP] Weapon models [imageheavy]

Was playing around some in 3ds max.

New spear/"trident"

Twohanded saber


Black on one side, white on the other.

Anyone got any weapons you'd like to see in-game? If you can provide a decent picture I can whip something up (I know I'm not the best artist heh).

Was thinking of doing a couple then releasing as a "pack".

Edit: Oh yeah, there are only 4 different "animations", so the weapon has to be similar to a twohanded sword, a spear, a club or a onehanded sword. The spear always stabs, for example, so it looks very bad if I put a scythe in there. Check the animations in-game if you're not sure.

Dude!!! That's awesome :)

You want to take a crack at making a "Dragon Orb" ? Yeah I know, you're thinking "Wtf...a Ord?!?" But it's not all as easy as it sounds. Dragon Orbs rotate colors and have a spinning fog inside that takes on random dragon shapes. They can also glow and change size to fit the owner once dominated.

I also wouldn't mind seeing a spear shaped like a Lightning Bolt that hurls Lightning (think Zeus). Also, the "Hammer of Kharas" from Dragonlance, sorry I can't find any pics of it :( , but it looks like a bad ass Dwarven Golden Hammer.

I really, really need a picture. Especially of "important" items like that. I've never read Dragonlance, so right now I'm thinking of something out of WOW from what you described.

I don't think I can make something change texture, but I might be able to make something move. I'll test it.

And since you are taking requests, I am sure a lot of dragonlance enthusiasts would appreciate a hoopack :P

 

def HOOPAK: This weapon is a combination spear and staff sling. The end of the weapon is usually sharpened and can be thrown or it can be stuck in the ground to fire missles from the sling portion like a sling shot. It may also be used as a traditional sling staff. The hoopak my be swung around to emit a low thrumming known as a bullroar.

Ahh man, can't you put it on a standard pole arm or staff? I'm honestly not all that concerned with how the character looks "swinging" it as I am how they look "holding" it. If we had one in game it would be PERFECT for a "Undead Reaper" specialty unit for Undead Rising, which would be a unit that sits back and casts things like "Touch of Death" and groovy stuff like that ;). Try one anyway if you got the time. Would be greatly appreciated ;) .

Also, great stuff there with the "Hoopak". We're going to have those in the DL Mod. If you don't mind in fact, I'll use that one right there you just made (with your permission of course).

First is as sword, second as spear. One problem is that the location differs slightly, so I can't make a model that fits both without the hands going off the hold.

Nice.  Very nice actually.

 

Can you do something that would use the empty hand to hand motion.  Like knuckles, or predator style gloves coming out of the arm protectors (greaves) or gauntlets?

For some reason the pikes turn into clubs when I use more than 4 guys. Maybe something in the xml.

It appears that <Type>Weapon</Type> cannot equip any other model than weapons in their hands. Theoretically it's possible to to make an armor piece that looks "offensive", but you'd still be able to equip a real weapon.

Actually I'm going to start on some swords first tomorrow. It's the department I feel they fall really short on - every single sword looks almost exactly the same. I don't know if it's just me, but if it's fantasy, IMHO, you can live a little with the design. Not as much as WOW or Allods Online, but still a lot.

I take it they are props therefore they do not need attachment to the actual skeleton, right? Would be normal, however armor creation seems problematic than :( IF at all possible yet.
