HELP HELP I'M BEING REPRESSED!

I was whooping the computer on normal, so I decided to up the AI to 'bright.'

Now I feel like a paraplegic in a game of musical chairs.
Even if I tech rush to stellar cartography I never seem to get very many planets. It seems like every one that I go to has someone already there babbling at me in some alien tounge. Likewise if I scout out and pump out colonies. What the hell am I supposed to do o_O?

Speed +1/+2 is the answer if you are always beaten to planets. I assume you are already at 100% military, 100% expenses.

Another strategy is to take the PQ bonus. Since the A.I. ignores planets of PQ 13 & 14, there is no rush to get those early. You can take them at your leisure and after building soil enhancement have some nice planets. :D

My strategy is a combination of both of the above
Speed +1 PQ +5 (and pop+20)

Lets you get to planets quicker, and lets you colonize 12+ planets and make them into at leat 15s.

Seph. Next time try upping the Drengin and Yor to bright and leave the rest normal for now. Once you handle that. Up the Arceans, then Torians, and lastly the Altarians.

Also research comm theory, then Translators (both yellow techs) as soon as you meet an alien or before. Then you can understand them.

warcraft3 fan too seph? hehe

I do have trouble beating the AI too... I end up leasing colony ships on mitrosoft and have to pay insane leases of 100 for a few years

#2 LifeWish,

The AI does not always ignore PQ13's & 14's. If it will receive a PQ-bonus random event for colonizing that planet, it will land on these as well.

Apparently, it figures this into its calculation as to what the final PQ will be as a result of its colonizing, thus knowing these events "in advance".

Also, at Maso level, the AI receives an inherent +PQ advantage; it will settle any PQ13's & 14's as a matter of course at this difficulty.

What makes you think I'm a war3 fan? The Monty Python quote?

I rarely ever use any of the lease options anymore.
They are way too expensive.

Cheaper to buy a trade good from the AI that makes it... usually I wait for eco boom if I can.

True, but you can't corner the market that way.

Wow. That's good to know because now I don't feel like it is such an unfair advantage for me. I mean, if the A.I. understands how to do this then too bad for them if they don't use it. :D

Do you have any actual evidence of this occurring. I certainly hope the AI doesn't know in advance when it's going to get a +PQ event. Certainly Frogboy didn't include that on his list of advantages.

From a personal standpoint, I have certainly never seen anything to suggest they did know. I've sse only a few PQ 13 and 14 colonizations, but playing against genius or incredible AI's, they have a built-in +PQ advantage which helps. The AI also can make the +PQ starting pick.

#13 Babcom 280: I have a save game file where (at Brilliant) the Drengin landed on a PQ14 planet and raised it to a PQ18 first turn. This is a +30 improvement.

AFAIK, the inherent +30 trait bonus applies only at Incredible level. Did this change in an update? (I updated to 1.05.071 in the process of this game.) If so, being present at the Brilliant level as well would account for the increase, instead of my conjecture re: random events.
