Oh ye of (sometimes) little faith

It's been a while since I last wrote anything about my favored baseball team.  Anyone that follows the league probably knows why, given that they seemed to have hit the wall early in their season and what started out with some hope and rays of sunshine soon dropped back to the tired and well known practices of perpetual losing that have dominated previous seasons.  I knew early on that they weren't as good as they seemed, but I really hoped they weren't as bad as they've played lately either.  Sadly, losing a bunch of games in a row, or seeming to lose a bunch of games in a row, just knocks the wind out of your sails and leaves you feeling that they might never get it together, despite introducing this year's phenom to the home crowd the other night (the same night that fans were also waiting impatiently with fingers crossed hoping that last year's phenom isn't too badly injured and will be able to come back strong next season...)

Anyway, when I try to catch a game lately I find myself turning away earlier and earlier as they seem to be giving up sizable leads early on.  That's what happened last night, though I tuned back in a couple of times to see if the situation had changed and low and behold last night the situation did change and where I had seen the Cardinals jump out to a lead I was seeing the Nationals back in the lead.  Except just as I tuned in the pitcher of record seemed to be falling apart and the lead was disappearing.  Argh.  I repeated the same pattern, tuning out again, but coming back later and again I was shocked to see that the Cardinals were behind and the Nationals were trying to pull off a save.  A save they blew.  Blech!

Surprisingly enough the Nationals came back to tie up the game in their half of the 9th inning and then proceeded to actually earn a win in the extra innings.  Unbelievable.  Absolutely unbelievable.  I guess I should have had more faith in them, but given the way the season has progressed can you blame me for being a doubter?

It was an eerie day with 2 teams blowing 9 run leads!  The other team won, so congrats to the Nats for hanging in on their game.
