Transparent UI

For some reason I don't have a background on my UI, it's transparent and this makes playing the game and setting options very frustrating and next to impossible.

Try deleting the Screens folder in C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic on Windows XP).

I have the same problem, but deleting the screens folder didn't resolve the issue.

I'll try again with the new ati drivers.

I had the same issue, but clearing the screens folder DID work.  Thanks!

@AndrasLucifugo - make sure you deleted the files in the ProgramData/Application data folder, NOT the game's install folder...

Actually, that solution only worked the first time.  After exiting and starting the game again, the problem is back.  Clearing the screens folder does nothing now.

I've uninstalled elemental, and scrubbed the computer clean, directories (programFiles, programData, MyGames) and registry, downloaded and installed again.

Still the same

I am having the same issue. Your instructions on what to delete are unclear, they match none of my directory paths on Vista 64. I assume you mean the screenshots folder buried in the my documents area? Clearing that out didn't help.

I also found a screens folder in the main game install directory, but it looks kind of important? Maybe I'll back that folder up and try deleting it and see what happens.

Could just be coincidence, but I have never seen this issue before and there are only two variables that I can think of that have changed: 1) patched to 1.06; and 2) updated to ATI catalyst drivers 10.8.

the folder he is talking about is in c:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic\, even in vista 64, but it's an hidden folder, so you won't see it if you don't see hidden folders.

I too have an ATI card, with catalyst 10.8, on windows 7 64.

The new card should arrive today, so we'll se if it's going to solve the problem.

If deleting the screens folder did not help, check that you have windows set to use US decimal settings (ex: 1,234,567.89).

I actually got this resolved the same day. I had some weird customizations going on in my regional settings. Locale was GB and I had customized it so it used Dutch decimal settings.

I did this for a game where you couldn't select the language, it would just pick it from your regional settings. I hate playing games in Dutch, it just looks weird.

Anyway, got this fixed by putting everything back to default in my regional settings (Dutch in my case), removing every trace of Elemental from my computer, so an uninstall and the folders C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic and C:\Documents\My Games\Elemental. Ran a registry cleaner to remove all registry items for Elemental and installed it again. Ui is fine now.

Don't have an ati card so don't know if your issue is related.

That was it! Now I can see the menu. I would have never thought of something like that; some string to numeric conversion then?

I think this thread could be tagged as FIXED. (oh, well, even better if that problem could be resolved without me changing the numeric options)

Thank you very much!!

This happend when I hit shift-tab to bring up the impulse menu. I rebooted my system and it was fixed. Never had it happen prior, but tis fine now
