Food For Settlements

I've played for about two houra all told and the one thing stopping my settlements from exapnding beyond settlement level is a complete lack of food. Where does one find this resource? How do you exploit it? I have not found a tech yet that allows me to build farms or any similar thing on fertile soil ... I need food to build huts.

Thanks in advance

Just select the fertile land on the map once it's in your territory, and click the build button.

yep. As you expand and build more cities, you need to found more cities next to food to keep it going.

If you can't expand the city due to lack if food, there is a spell which allows extra food production. I will give one extra Point of Food which might be enough to Expand the city.

As has been stated in other posts food is meant to be scarce due to how barren some areas are.

helpful hint: When Founding a City always ensure there are at least 2 food sources nearby.

At least two?  One food source will get you to level 3 and partway to level 4, or get two cities up to level 2.

Does the spell cost mana cost as a once off or have a cost per turn?
