The big fat "HELP ME" thread

The big fat "HELP ME" thread

Allright, I think I'm beginning to grasp most of Elemental, but there is still some things I can't figure out, and I need to know whether it is because I am missing something, or because the game is bugged. Therefore, I am creating this thread to allow people to ask questions about ingame things.

I'm starting out with these issues:

- Summoning. When I try to cast "Summon familiar" nothing happens. I have the correct amount mana - am I doing something wrong?

- Enchanting. Same goes with giant strength. Again, nothing happens.

- Food. Okay, so my cities can't grow without enough food, and there are no natural food resources nearby - what are my options?

Any suggestions?

I've imbued a number of champions with essence. I have this big super-stack of 5 or so channelers, including my main dude. All of them have access to teleport, but the only one that can successfully cast it is my main dude. Is this a bug or a feature? When my other guys cast it, I get the pre-teleport graphic on the tile I pick, but then the stack doesn't show up (and the caster isn't charged the mana).

I would label this a bug. It probably has something to do with the fact that it's a basic starter spell for a Sovereign, and I'm not sure that imbued units inherit this "starter" mechanic. They gain access to your spellbook, but it sounds like the spell just isn't properly hooked up to them.

When you have units training, select the city and to the left of the city portrait in the lower center of the screen should be a tab called "Training" or something ike that. All the units you have set to train are listed there, and you can click the X to cancel the unit.

wow, can't believe I missed that, awesome thanks.

You should have them available from the training screen of the town with the harbour. The little circle portrait is a map.

Thanks man, I found it.

Is there some way to force the game to enter tactical combat mode? I want to use the tactical mode to fight the bears and wolfs to start off with, but I'm not given an option.

ok, apologies if this is already answered elsewhere, I have wasted 20 minutes looking and searchin in the forums and the pdf maanual... but how do you get your units to heal combat damage.  Like, my hero takes  5 pts from spider bites.  Does it heal back over time, or does he have to be in a city, or not moving, etc?  Also, my peasants got munched, a unit had 2 of the three peasants die off.  Is there any way to replenish such a unit, or do you have to disband it and train a new one?  Thanks for any replies!

EDIT: ok someone answered the healing thing... can you heal while moving though? also not sure about the unit question above.  Or does healing apply to them alsso?

There's an option somewhere to turn the battle threshold down.  A vertical scroll bar kind of thing.  It's so you don't have to fight really easy battles (but when you first play you want to anyways!)

Thanks Zorbane, I found it once you said the part about the vertical scroll bar.

Alright, another newbie question: Are caravans of any use just inside your kingdom, or only for trading with other kingdoms? Can you automate them? Do you have to actively run each caravan?

All units will heal while resting in a city. I'm not sure about on the move - if you do heal it's a minimal amount. You can buy (or find) healing potions and similar from the town stores which will replenish some hitpoints when you use them - the meat (ham?) restores 5 hit points and is available from the start I believe.

I've never tried taking them to another kingdom, so I'm not sure. There's no management though, once you run them into another town they create a road and the trade route is automated, traders automatically move along the road and generate resources.

So...How do i equip items on a hero...

Campaign first mission, found city, and it says "we should get items"

So i click "Buy from shop" option, bought some gnarled clubs, but all my heros still have 0 attack, and it doesn't appear under their items, but it took my gold and i have gnarled clubs in the shop window of "your inventory".

-.-

What's the Scion's story? I though there was supposed to be more to them than a role as an overpriced peasant...

And speaking of peasants, what's the deal with fallen peasants having 13 hp? Upgrading units from the peasant chassis is an abusively powerful result.

Select them on the strategy map, click the sword and shield icon next to their attack value at the bottom of the screen and you'll get their equipment screen. Just click what you want to equip. Equipped items have a coloured background.

There is a small icon that looks like a shield at the bottom of your hero circle when you are on the adventuring map with your hero as the selected unit.  Click that and it takes you to the equipment screen.

Any hints on how to find where to complete quests in sandbox mode? I've got a quest to escort a nobleman's son...somewhere, but it doesn't say where. I can't find any hints for it.

The quest objective should appear as a yellow tinted building on the cloth map.

I have seen my units level up.. how do i tell by mouse over or details what level they are? I do not see a level indicator...

never mind i am an idiot and was looking at only level 1 units LOL....

How do you upgrade units that are already built? For example: I have a soldier armed with an Axe and I research Maces. How do I upgrade my soldiers already built with Axes to Maces?

Can you turn off the game creating new soldier types for you? I'd prefer to just make my own as I go along.

And adding to the list of questions:

If there are no shards around your starting location, does that mean there will never be any? Are there future techs that you learn that "unlock" and show you shards that have been around all the time? I'm trying to figure out how important one's starting location is.
