What is best for Stardock?

Where should I buy Elemental - online or at a store?

This may be a question that has been addressed before.

IIRC, when GalCiv 2 came out, Brad stated on the forums or somewhere that it was best for Stardock if customers bought GalCiv 2 at retail instead of online. The explanation was something to the effect that buying the game in the store would help get more traction with retailers and keep the game on the shelf longer.

Of course Impulse has blown up since then and so I don't know if that's the case for Elemental.

Anyone know?

Well money-wise buying it from Impulse is better for them (regardless of whether you buy just the digital copy or the boxed copy) because they get more of the money. When you buy it through retail or Amazon or whatever, that company gets a share of the $50 (or $70 for the Limited Edition). If you buy from Impulse, Stardock gets 100% of the profits.

I don't know about getting more shelf-space, though.

I would imagine they prefer you buy it through their proprietary distribution platform.

I'm "glad" that Europeans don't have such dilemma between retail or Impulse...

Well said Kryo.  What is best for our customers is what is best for us. Not just saying that either. It's true.

Oh god don't buy it at retail.  Frogboy and kryo are being too polite ;)  Buy with Impulse!

What's best for Stardock is for them to give me Elemental Now!!! Oh, and throw in a free copy of that book while you're at it. ;)

What's best for Stardock: Buy a copy for yourself on Impulse, then go buy a retail copy and give it a friend. ;)

.. Then also buy a copy for each of your co-workers ;) Why stop at one friend!

Afterwards, you can buy 50 or so copies, and stand around on a street corner handing them out.

so, what about that special digital edition that was suggested in another thread?

I think many of us who went for the simplier digital solution would happily consider an alternate "upgrade" button :)

I bought my boxed version from Impulse because I assumed Stardock would make more money that way.  Very rare for me to buy a game from a retail store these days.
