Help!!! LoL

Hello my fellow Modders and friends,

         As I'm sure you'd all like to know, work on the Dragonlance Mod is progressing slowly but surely. I've been plugging away on the world map and some custom tiles (though the tile editor keeps crashing on me). Realistically I'm still at least a month or two away from a 1.0 release, maybe longer if I can't find the models I need. As I've mentioned before, 3D Modeling is Not one of my strong suits. Skins, Textures, Colors, I can handle all those and even apply those to current models in game. Making decent looking New Models is somewhat beyond me though. As such I thought I would come to my fellow Modders for help. I also figure if others have Model Requests we could keep all the requests in one thread like a "Order Form" where we can request Models and when those Models are made the requests can be filled and posted in this thread.

Here are the Models I currently need. Some of these may not be needed after release but there's no way to know for sure until we have the full release and see what goodies they've been holding back from us for the full game.

 

Draconians: In Dragonlance there is a race called "Draconians". They are an intelligent race though they are not natural. They were made by magic and twisting the eggs of Dragons into a Dragon/Man hybrid. They have the head, wings, and tails of a Dragon with the body shape of a man. Their skin is scaly.

 

Minotaurs: In Dragonlance Minotaurs are a intelligent race which mainly inhabit the island nations of Mithas and Kothas. Minotaurs have a Human Body with the Head of a Bull.

 

Elves: In all honesty this one shouldn't be that hard. All that really needs to be done is to have pointy ears places on a standard human model.

 

Dwarves: Short, stocky, humans.

 

Kender/Halflings: Short, skinny, child-like, humans. I wonder if there will be models of children in the full game? We have all kinds of civilians walking around the cities so it would make sense that kids would be running around as well. If so I can use their model for Kender.


If anyone else has any Model Requests by all means please place them in this thread. Since I consider Kyogre to be in charge of keeping all the modding info in order maybe he will be so kind as to keep track of these as well.

That's not a normal Hydra. That's Takhisis, the 5 Headed Dragon Goddess from Dragonlance. In Dragon Form she's supposed to have 5 heads. Good thing she doesn't have 5 heads in human form or we'd have to hear 5 times as much bitching from her as when compared to the amount of bitching by a chick with only 1 head..LoL.

Hey Raven I have two questions:

1. Did you ever play AOW:SM?

2. And if so did you ever make a DL mod for it. They did have Draconians in the game and all the other races that would be needed for DL.

Just curious because if so then I wouldn't mind looking it up and downloading it.

I did play it, yes, but I never did any mods for it. The last Mod Project I was a part of was a Freedom Force Mod many years back. Aside from that any other modding I've done has been in games like GalCiv 2 and even then I only did it for my own enjoyment of the game and my own personal version that I played locally.

When the Dragonlance Mod launches months from now it will be only the second major public mod I've been a part of. I am doing a lot of other mini mods here for Elemental however so if you like my work you've got a lot of Elemental goodness coming your way ;).

I pulled out good old Blender and tried my hand at a Draconian model.

 

I havent figured out how to get the Elemental HBK files into blender just yet.  So I dont know how to judge how many polys are too much.

I left him naked to see if when they put out the mod tools if they have an "easy" tool to have interchangeable armor.  It wouldnt be hard to make armored and be-robed models if they dont have such a tool in the works.

Hes just a first draft.  No UVs and no bones.  But if folks have suggestions on improving him (add hand and feet claws. elbow joint in the wings lengthen shorten body parts etc. ) let me know.

Wow, looking most excellent Sancus. That is a damn fine looking model there. 

 

And yes please, come on over to the Dragon Lance mods, even if just to throw out some advice or shoot the poop.

Nice job on that draconian Sancus, the only thing I would say is maybe make the face less pointed, but I'm really not familiar with the many types of draconians that exist in lore :). Asides that I gotta say it looks mighty fine, keep it up!

Heh thank yous.

I would like to help out as I can.   Which at this point is making models in Blender :P  

At this point I dont have the slightest clue as how to get them from Blender and into a game :)

Ill go smash that draconians face in a bit.

Thanks man.  Actually, I got rid of the skeleton above.  I didn't like it, so I erased it.  I thought this one looked much better:

I swear... this one was soooo much easier to do.  If you notice in the close up, I have attached a tongue.  I am going to have a rough go at mapping this guy, but as you can see this is a great model and will be worth the effort.  I cannot wait for this one to make it into Elemental.  After the devs sees this, they will beg me on hands and knees to come and remodel the rest of Elemental.

Hello,

I am an intermediate 3d artist proficient with Maya. I do environmental and some character modelling.  I am knowledgable of rigging, texturing, UVing, and Animation as well. I am interested in providing some help as I see a lot of promise in Elemental and have free time while I wait for the parts of the game to be moddable become moddable (scripting and such).

What I lack is the means and knowledge to export my work from maya to the format required by Elemental. I have included 2 examples from of a dwarflike character I am working on as well as a link to a higher resolution image of it. The model is 3dMMO polycount (1507 faces) -- which is something I imagine will be desired for Elemental game models. Weights are still being painted on the model (Weights control how the model's skin curves and bends at the skeletal joints) so the mesh deformation at the elbows will look odd.

I can adapt to different styles and concept art. I will post more of my work later this evening but you can look around the limited portfolio I have for an idea of different styles I've dabbled in.

That's the model we'll be using for "Takhisis". Right now we need to animate and skin it still. We're waiting on some word from Stardock on how we'll be able to get our own animations in game atm, as we are with a lot of things.

With so much changing as far as game mechanics and changes in the code for the coming up versions of Elemental the most we can do right now is to keep making art assets and getting things ready for when we have the rest of the tools from Stardock so we can continue our work and be ready for the day when we can piece everything together.

I've played around with the Havok converter trying to get an animation converted, but have had no luck so far.  I'm happy to provide some models as time allows, in order of request. I don't wish to commit myself to any specific project as my time isn't always as free as I'd like it to be. It's not my wish that a mod project fail because I didn't get all the models done :)

Anyone ever think about trying to rip some models out of NWN2 or Oblivion since they are both so modder friendly?

For the Master of Magic mod we need essentially the same models. So if we find/get any we will post them for you and if you get any, please let us know.
