“Sid Meier is known throughout Maryland and the world as a pioneer of electronic gaming, having co-founded his first studio in Baltimore County, Maryland in 1982, and today continuing a tradition of developing the talent and creativity of future generations,” the governor’s statement said.

“Now, therefore, I, Martin O’Malley, Governor of the State of Maryland, do hereby pay tribute to the outstanding achievements of Sid Meier on this day, July 28, 2010, and hereby recognize September 21, 2010, as Sid Meier’s Civilization V Day, and call upon the people of our State to join in celebrating this salute.”

The fact that our government officials spend their time and our money doing such frivolous crap is ludicrous. But it is kinda funny in it's ridiculousness.

They got nothing on Topeka. Though I guess cities have more to gain from this kind of thing (and have less things to do) then states.

Soon you will need to have a Steam account to be allowed entry to the state of Maryland.  You'll be asked to log to your steam account upon entry by stateline officials. ;)

Yeah, it's terrible that someone spent two minutes signing a meaningless proclamation to show support for a local company that brings in large quantities of tax revenue.

Next thing you know the governor will dare to take coffee breaks too! :|

You know nothing involving the government works that efficiently ;) . Seeing as it's Civ V day, a game that hasn't come out, instead of a homage to the series I'd say somebody's advertising budget was at work anyways. So the state probably did come out ahead on this one. :)

Absolutely stupid thing. If it had been 2K Day in Maryland on the other hand...
