craeonics, see this quite alot with explorer.. locked files/folders or dll's. All it takes is a restart of explorer and all is fine. Which most people restart the computer because of these simple things only because they do not know the workarounds, obvously you'll have to restart if its locked or new system files after installation or such.

I've tried all that and those things do help, however rebooting helps more. Rebooting takes only about a minute now and with much better results. I think of it as my seventh inning stretch....

Thanks for the article.

I know run>msconfig is a favorite of IS (IT) people running company networks.

Windows 98 and XP have the msconfig included.

People running Windows 2000 may have to find the utility download.

I don't think Windows 2000 includes it natively, but I know we have it installed as a seperate piece of software by the IS crew where I work.

Definitely a helpful utility.

For anyone who is interested.

The msconfig from XP can be run on 2000.

The download can be found near the bottom of the page at the following - http://www.thetechguide.com/downloads.html

You may want to read up a bit on the subject if you are unsure of stopping some programs from running at startup before diving in.

Should prevent alot of unnecessary clicking in the task manager and improved system performance.
