800 x 600 boot screen

the video drivers on my machine support 800 x 600 as the lowest screen resolution

this is kind of nice - if you need safe-mode, it is better than 640 x 480  |-)

but, the 640 x 480 skins are "stretched" out to 800 x 600

the vidstub.sys driver seems to only allow 640 x 480 skins

has anyone else had this experience ?

if so, have you found a way to use 800 x 600 skins ?

Bootskins for XP are made at and apply at 640x480, at bootup your video drivers are not loaded so will not be controlling the res.

Thanks Cavan (a little late)

It would have been more correct for me to say that my video adapter does not seem to run at anything less than 800x600.

At any rate, I am back after a year or so of learning win32 assembly language.

Maybe I can write a few tools and so on - maybe even hit the 800x600 issue.

Yes, as with the BIOS screens they run in VGA mode ... 640x480 16 colour. [4 bit] ...;)
