Do DeskScapes work with Fences?

Somehow when I run DeskScapes with Fences, my fences disappear in Vista. The icons are simply put on desktop without fences themselves. Do I need restart computer or purchase Fences Pro or do something else?

Sorry, but bump? Anyone?

I use both with no problems. I have Fences Pro, Deskscapes and running Windows 7.

Thanks, I have installed pro and have restarted computer. Now it is fine!

Fences and Deskscapes should work fine together on Vista/7.

But they don't. I too have the same problem. It seems it's a directx realted issue, because after I installed the latest drivers for directx (from the microsoft site) the fences came back. But after a reboot the fences are gone -___-

I'm with vista, and fences used to work with deskscapes. I don't know what could have happened.

See reply #2. I don't understand why some things work for some, and not for others.

It's like DesktopX 4...I know people that have no trouble with it. I can't do anything with it. Go figger....

Do you perhaps have a GeForce 8000 series graphics card? Some people are having problems as a result of the latest driver release from NVIDIA.

Yes geforce 8800 GTS 512. It must be that, because that morning when I launched the ciomputer it worked. And now, it doesn't. I changed nothing in between.

Is this on XP?  DeskScapes and Fences is a no-no on XP, and usually you'll see this as a result.

I am on vista and have the same thing : sometimes I can see the fences, sometimes not.

To clarify, are the icons in the correct places, but the fences themselves aren't rendered?

Yes that's it. Icons are where they shoudl be. If I add a new icon it is automatically placed. Everything works fine .. but the fences rendering.

If you kill 'explorer.exe' under the processes tab in task manager, then click File -> New Task (Run...), then enter 'explorer.exe' minus the quotes and hit the Enter key, do they then display properly?

I don't know, it now works. But for how long ? I can't say. so whenever that bug come back I'll try what you said :)

What I suggested could fix the problem, but it was more for diagnostics. Also, if this becomes a problem, go ahead and send an email to [email protected].

Ok, I tried it and it works :)

So, if I understand correctly, Fences and DeskScapes will never work together under WindowsXP?

Correct.

Fences is also incompatible with ActiveDesktop on XP.

Ok, so the "kill explorer.exe then run explorer.exe" works fine. But I have to do it each time I launch my comp. Is there any way to automatize it ? Or to avoid tinkering with reg or anything like that ?

There is a way to automate it, yes.  Open up notepad, and paste in:

@echo off
taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
start explorer.exe

Save it with an extension of .bat, not .txt.

Just run that file and it should work...

It should be noted that having to restart explorer each time is not normal behavior for Fences. If this is the case, I'd recommend starting up a support ticket by sending an email to [email protected].

OK, I see I need to turn fences off to get deskscapes to work on XP. But why is it that when I hit the start button, my dream freezes?

As soon as the start panel closes, the dream runs again.   Fences disabled.

Been there, done that Dewie, although I appreciate the help.  I opened up a ticket from stardock and they tried a few things, but couldn't solve it.    They ended up asking me if I wanted a refund, but I still wanted to keep my object desktop so I said no.

For the record though, restarting explorer does correct the issue.
