This was my favorite.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X3GD0UnBCk

Before that, no intro ever interested me.  I loved the Mechwarrior 2 intro though, and it brought about the cinematic intros that all games have now (that you seem to despise, if I remember correctly).

What, no mention of Fallout or Fallout 3?  For shame!

Also, Diablo II is another good one - then again, just about ANYTHING Blizzard makes is made of win.

Two that I'd personally like to nominate, however, have to be the intros for Red Alert 2, and its expansion, Yuri's Revenge - because Udo Kier is just that badass.

Yuri's Revenge also has some of the most haunting intro music I've ever heard.  Consider for a moment that one man is about to enslave the world to his will, all while that music is playing in the background.  It makes the scene just that more powerful.

Who wades through the thread to see if it has been posted already? Especially when all the links are displayed in full, who clicks them all?

I just remembered the oroginal Zelda tune, not the crap that was relased afterwards, they had better tunes in terms of sound quality, but the original one was the most haunting. The way the simple notes worked to make some truely haunting and epic tune... Brilliant. That one has to be the best intro music ever.

In love with this (and the music), Final Fantasy VI intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viFJ0tdwuS8

And although not an intro but an ending, Final Fantasy VI ending: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84DOyg_Jzno&feature=related

That said, Wild Arms or bust!!!

Name me an Infinity Engine game that doesn't, and I'll (rightly) call you a liar and beat your face in with a pumpkin.

Ok, I don't post a lot, but had to get in on this.  All time Classic Intro, definity Mule.  Love that song.  Oh, if anybody knows where I can get an audio file of it, the original, not one of the remakes that's all I can find, I'd be grateful.

For more modern computer game, I gotta go with Mechwarrrior 3, absolutely hands down, the best Intro I've ever seen.  It's the ONLY intro that I thought, "Make it 2 hours, gimme some popcorn, and I'll pay $10 to see this in a theater."  It absolutely captured the Mechwarrior vibe.

On an off-topic, but related note.  Music on a title screen, Final Fantasy IV.  Not any of the remakes, the SNES version.  Much like Mule, this is a game I would turn on and leave running just to listen to the music at the title.

The very first piece is from the Title Screen.  Oh, another piece of music that I think is just awesome from FFIV, it played in, I believe caves on the moon.  It's in this list of Top 10 favorite music from FFIV, at 3:38.

Anyway, had to get in my 2 cents, and say thanks for all the memories from these links

Ripper

Ooh, Had to add to awesome Title Screen Music, Civ IV.  A Neat tribal drum kinda piece.  Another one that I like to turn on and just listen.

I played M.U.L.E. for many, many hours.  And still love the intro music!

Glad to see Archon on the initial list, although a little disappointed that the video was missing the ascending/descending notes before the theme hit it's stride.  M.U.L.E. and Archon - two games from when Electronic Arts could do no wrong...  :)

The Command & Conquer install process was awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cioyLQ2O6yc

The intro for Another World had some incredible animation for its time, and the mix of futuristic with banal (along with the minimalist sound design) did an amazing job of setting the scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1j4gO9sR7zs

And the intro for the original Prince of Persia demonstrates the value of musical cues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lle5nmS5dYA

If you remember the music to some of these game, you can find an assortment of remixes over here: http://remix.kwed.org/  Some are fantastic, keeping the feel of the original.  Others... well, stick to the smiley faces.

Just the music at the beginning had you in the right mode to play this, one of the best PC games of all time.

Fallout 2 had the best of the three.

Kiss to build a dream on is an amazing song.

As if having your homeworld orbitally bombarded by some damn Bugs wasn't enough, now you have to deal with evil mind-shredding marsupials; Sword of the Stars: Born of Blood Intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijAYZimvpww

And if evil mind-shredding marsupials weren't bad enough, now you have to deal with an ancient arrogant race who believe space is theirs and look down on you as an inferior species; A Murder of Crows Intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYgti3MKCDg&fmt=18

I prefer the BoB intro, if only because you get seriously creeped the frak out just by the voice alone, never mind what he's saying.

And I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

Anyone ever played with a game called "Sword of Aragon"? I just read that it was a decent strategy game. I must try it out, I don't really care about the gfx.

Mechwarrior 2 was the only intro I've watched every time I played the game.  All other intros I watch once usually, that's it.  Lately I don't even watch them.  Partly because they seem to take too long, partly because there are too many commercial logos preceding them, etc., and then there's EA that seems to prefer intros you can't escape out of, forcing watching them every time, that's cultivated the habit of just bypassing intros.

Great thread!

Had to log in for this one.
