A New Year’s Prayer
May God make your year a happy one!
Not by shielding you from all sorrows and pain,
But by strengthening you to bear it, as it comes;
Not by making your path easy,
But by making you sturdy to travel any path;
Not by taking hardships from you,
But by taking fear from your heart;
Not by granting you unbroken sunshine,
But by keeping your face bright, even in the shadows;
Not by making your life always pleasant,
But by showing you when people and their causes need you most,
and by making you anxious to be there to help.
God’s love, peace, hope and joy to you for the year ahead.
Had a great New Year's Eve and New Year's Day with the family. On NYE, we got out all the party stuff around 5 when the pizza arrived, and sat all the food and sodas up on the dining room table like a buffet, so we could pig out all night long!
We wound up not watching any movies, but just sat around talking and sharing memories until Dick Clark came on at 10. Then we watched TV...the girls and I were dancing and singing with the music, and we were all acting silly with our horns and blowers. At midnight, we toasted each other with sparkling cider and champagne, then the girls went to bed and Barry and I watched the rest of the Dick Clark show before heading off to bed ourselves.
Yesterday, we slept until around 9, had breakfast, and then watched the Rose Parade, soap operas and football. We had the munchies out all day again, and then I made corned beef, cabbage, boiled potatoes and baby carrots for dinner, and we drank sparkling cider. After dinner, the girls and I played Jenga and Sequence, and then I watched them play the video game on The Santa Clause II DVD for a while, and then we took turns playing online bingo games (Barry was watching the Orange Bowl and Brian is spending the weekend with friends).
Today is cleanup day, and the kids have to finish up any homework for Monday that's not completed yet, then tonight we'll settle in to watch Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl. Not sure if Amy will be here or not, as George (her dad) has mentioned picking her up this afternoon, but has yet to confirm anything with me...so we'll just have to wait and see.
Speaking of dads, Brian and Samantha haven't heard from Doug since they called him Christmas Day, so I guess he meant it when he said if he couldn't have the time with them that he wanted, instead of the time that was in the court order, he just wouldn't see them at all during the break. I'm going down to the post office Monday morning and mailing out the presents the kids got for him, Mary (his wife) and Samantha Jo (Mary's daughter), and then we'll just see how long it takes him to contact them THIS year.
