ATI or Nvida

ATI or Nvida

man not sure what brand i want for a computer that i will be getting in 2 months

ATI so far has DX 11 cards but Nvida seems to have a better quality,

Nvida do not yet have DX 11 as far as i know had a bad time with my old computer with ati mainly the driver side which i sorted.

anyway this might be a little early to ask because who knows quantum computers could come out in that time.

looks like morpheas is right here check out these.

I dont understand, what does the stability has to do with performance?

I wouldnt use an unknown program to test the stability of my gfx anyway, because testing with a program that calls a few commands, on the GPU, that some video games would never use, is kinda irrelevant.

The best way to test the stability of your card, would be to:

1. Use a burn-your-card program like FurMark, in extreme burning mode, to see how your card behaves on high temps, and ofc to check how much it heats up on full load.

2. Would be to run a more "game representative" bench (like 3D mark, to see how it behaves on normal conditions.

Combine the results of the 2, and you get pretty good analysis of your gfx card's stability.

However, kona0197 has both, and if he wants, he can easily run a benchmark, and see the exact numbers on each of the 2 cards.

I only have one of the cards. The 7900 I sold with the old PC. This 8400 runs my games better anyhow.

By the way the Windows system rating is not useless.

Ok, but it is nearly useless :P

About the 2 cards comparison, you can always check a few sites, just use your best friend, Google. But for the argument's sake, here is a quick reference to the performance difference between the 2 cards:

I don't need to read up on the cards. All I need to do is fire up Final Fantasy 7 or Command & Conquer. The 8400 does much better than the 7900. The 7900 would almost freeze in Command & Conquer if I was battling with 8 enemy armies. The 8400 doesn't freeze up.

I used to always go for Nvidia cards my last one being a 8800gtx until i changed to ATI mf first one was 2 crossfired 3870's UGH!! now that was one bad card! But i stuck with them and now have a 4890 in my system after i got a duff 280gtx that wouldn't even boot with the system and all they had that was decent was the 4890 which i'm very happy with and don't plan on going back to Nvidia any time soon!

Yes the drivers used to suck really badly compared to Nvidias ones but now they are really good and i've never had any problems with them.

I can do better then necro, I can reanimate the thread discussion too....

Look, if you want to know what card to buy, think about what games you are playing.
Go look at some benchmarks and see what performs best for the price.

Right now, chances are you will want a 5xxx series from ATI if DX11 is important to you.
If not, GTS250 pricing is looking nice right now for entry to performance gaming.
Woried about power consumption and heat, but still want to play games at a respectable level? Get a 4770

Uhm....I think he has already bought a card.....but w/e >_>

not yet going ATI since they cheaper and so far ahead of nvida for now.

Then you should consider price/perfomance, so you get the most for your buck.

ATI seems by far to have the best deals out at this time Nvida  is lagging pretty badly. I still don't see the point behind 3D vision seems to costly in money and perfomance

There is no point. Simple as that.

Nvidia has lost this battle and they know it, and they are probably betting on the next gen, which is obviously the best move to go for.

Nvidia fans, wait for 2011.

ATI fans, celebrate your victory.

Smart consumers who only buy whats best for them, go for ATI this time ;)
