Hex-based.

FINALLY!

I thought you were lying at first but I am glad I was wrong!

This is going to be epic!

May cause some competetion with Elemental though :)

w00t!

Civilization is only competition for Elemental if someone would buy one instead of the other.

I just don't imagine that happening. Anyone into TBS games is going to get both even if they came out the same day.

True story. It happened to me.

:O  , YES!

Edit: Frogboy, that game MUST be in Impulse for all regions or you better be ready for a transfer to my name so you buy one license for me.

Yeah, that is the ideal target market, and they will buy them both. But the people not yet "sold" on TBS games are not likely to get both. They'll get one. And CivV is currently the louder, as it's an established IP, and CivII caused an entire generation of students' GPAs at MIT to drop by half a point.

But this time, you have an edge. Galactic Civilizations 2 came out months after Civ IV, but Elemental is slanted to be released months before CivV.

It's also worth pointing out that the biggest direct competition to Elemental isn't CivV, it's a Fall From Heaven mod for CivV.  I'm not sure if the crew that did the one for CivIV is planning on tackling CivV, but even if they are it would be months before they had something that was playable.  With Elemental coming out earlier, you'd have a head start on them in terms of player base.

Well the games seem to be coming out at the same time.

In any case, I see it as an incentive for Stardock (yeah, like that they need more).

Not everyone has deep enough pockets to buy both, or enough free time (I have so little time these days... sigh).

EDIT: Hmm... I was trying to quote Frogboy... why didn't it work?

Of course they don't.  Plenty of people don't have deep enough pockets to even buy one.  Exactly who's problem is this?  Seriously...  did you want either CivV or E:WoM to be stopped so people don't have to make a decision or to even spend their money at all?

Buy zero, one, both.  I know which my choice will be.

Maybe a reason for SD to try and get EWoM out well before CivV is out ...!?

Oh my god, art deco style, modding friendly and better diplomacy ... How many of their developers are on our forum!?

And look at the graphics, it looks beautiful.

Im getting both Elemental and Civilization!

No, EWoM should only be out when Stardock really believes that it's the best they can do (expansion pack materials aside).

Unless something has changed in the interim, the FfH2 modders plan to work on something entirely different after they are done.

Hopefully it plays more like II than the newer versions.  Just couldn't get into III and IV like II did.  I know they need to add new stuff to keep people interested, but somewhere along the line they forgot the KISS rule IMO.

Well, I know I'm going to buy both of them (I bought Elemental already ages ago :p), but I can see them competing in some market segment, and also for the "recognition" as best TBS game of 2010 and some of those consumer awards.

I'll only get Civ 5 if really good mods come out for it, or people who's opinions I trust claim it blows the socks off 4.  It's got to at least surpass the mods for the last one for me to bother with it. :)

On Twitter they said they are aiming for Civ5 for Fall 2010...

Civ IV was one of the few more recent series where I bought the original game and each expansion as they were released as opposed to waiting for gold editions and such. It will be interesting to see how they've updated the series beyond hexes.

Exactly my thoughts. Its funny how I'm a paying customer, yet I also want to see Elemental do really well. Kinda like Elemental is my sporting team :)

Yes, w00t indeed! Except my laptop most likely won't run it, I doubt they will integrate Stardocks ideology of making games that run on older computers.

This is going to be a fantastic year and a half for strategy gaming! Starcraft II, Elemental, Civilization V, hopefully Kings and Castles, Disciples III...

Can't wait. When can we start pre-ordering it on Impulse?

I hope so.  2K seems to have narrowed what digital distributors it wants to put titles up on.  Bioshock 2 is only on Steam and D2D for instance.
