allprogs problem WB7

allprogs problem WB7

The mouseover color block didnt use to show if you set the all programs background to a trans setting of 'disabled(so as now)'.

I never understood what that meant but it worked for the allprogs arrow trick...it got rid of the color block out on the totally translucent parts.(both arrow and background have to be zero color information where you want the block to disappear)

It  was broken sometome during WB6 and continues into 7.

It would be great if this setting could be made to work again...I used it on almost all my blinds. :pout: ;)

This is on XP but it happens on all OS's(to me)...nvidia 8600gt...latest drivers.

thanks for your help Neil. :)

Heya I.R.

I got it fixed for Windows 7 and Vista ina minute doing this:\

Got to "Edit Start Menu > All programs >> Mouse over image" and add the a transparennt TGA for the "Mouse over image",

once this image is set, the OS do not paint the solid color behind it, it's a OS thing.

Now bout XP: this Win7/Vista trick does not work because XP is quite old now and uses the cclassic selection color for that area,

I see you using the old All Programs arrow trick by pushing negative margins for the text, that's the main problem on XP, that

trick neverreally worked as if you set the right values there in English, it will get broken  in other languages like German and

French or even if the user use a custiom DPI in his system, I would just make the All Programs back image without the built-in

text and arrow and then add the text as a Font presset and the arrow as a regular arrow, then use themargins to fit the classic

selection inside the tube you have painted in your All Programs background, I know it's will not as good as you original idea

but this is a safer way, you get a squared selection but you prevent other issues in your skin.

Remeber that this limitation is XP related only and it's OS limitation and on Vista and windows 7 your original design will work

really well adding that "Mouse over image" I told up there.

Sorry if I couldn't guve you a better solution for XP like on Vista and Win7, but I really tried alternatives.

Regards,

Dani

Oh!

And I forgot to say, NICE design :D

well I knew it was a different thing all together in Vista and 7...but this skin wasnt for those and no real plans to update it for them for now.

The issues with XP we have all long understood...alignment for non english was the only real problem and that could be addressed with a substyle not employing that trick.

The problem is sometime ago the translucency setting "disabled(so as now)" was broken but nobody said anything.

It only affects people like me who refuse to give up the trick, alignment issues or not.Apparently nobody uses any of my skins enough to notice because I did it on nearly every one of them. ;P

but thank you for trying...I should have told you not to worry so much about Vista or 7 enough to try and fix it...I just wondered why it was broken on XP(even tho its broken on all of them)

Oh,did the window frames animate for you?

They dont seem to animate for anyone til they check'allow 3rd party plugins' in WB config.

Neil cant fix what he dosnt know is broke...I notice that specific trans setting is gone from SKS now. :S

This is the sort of minor changes(like losing .wbo support),that render older skins less appealing...people quit using them.

I would quit skinning if I thought nobody used something I spent so much time on for more than a week and then never again.

Its why I dont skin WMP...every new version broke my skins. :(

thanks to the both of you for having this discussion within the forum, I got quite a bit from it. I hadn't notice those controls before, I had set the background color slider at mid-point which just happens to be the "not assigned" font color also.

I would like to also just mention that you two guys have impressed and inspired me for many years, truly you are master skinners. Using "Slider" at this moment, W7, 64bit and it looks great.

I'm one of those people with Ecological and Knot Vista, and I'm glad to hear that you are still going to update them. Thanks.
