W7 Driver for LAN-EXPRESS

My step-son got a new PC for Christmas and after building his desk and all we finally got aorund to hooking everything up. However, the wireless tower won't work on his PC. The disk I have is for 32 bit drivers and his new PC is 64 bit.

I am looking for drivers for a LAN-EXPRESS IEEE 80211b WLAN USB ADAPTER

I have looked all over and and most of the available downloads are from pay sites or 'questionable' sites that want you to sign up and then want all kinds of info.

If anyone could help with this, I would appreciate it.

Po'........What OS?..........Did you try Microsoft Update with the USB Adapter plugged in to see if it detects it and installs the driver?

It's WIndows 7 Home Premium

No internet connection, I have been searching for hte driver on my PC on the internet.

The Lan-Experess is the tower (USB plug) that picks up the wirelss signal from our router.

The OS is Windows 7

The wireless adapter is

LAN-EXpress IEEE 802.11b USB Adapter WLAN

USB PCMCIA 2.1.0 Util 0.2.4.9 30829

model - U1OHO1O FCC ID MCLU10H010

I Have no other info as far as manufacturer or anything. It came from TimeWarner and the install disc is for 32 bit OS and is from 2003. The PC I am trying to hook it to keeps asking for the 64bit drivers which are not on the disc.

Several searches seem to point to this company being the manufacturer but cannot be sure. http://www.atheros.com/pt/wlan_core.htm

Can't seem to find much on 64 bit support elsewhere on the internet. You might like to email the company to see if they can help. I'll keep looking Po' and if I find anything I'll let you know

What router?

Don't kill yourself. I've looked and it's frustrating as all get out.

FYI - I tried uninstalling it and rebooting and letting windows try and find a driver but had no luck

In one of my searches I found this for 64 bit - REALTEK RTL8187 USB Wireless LAN Driver Setup Utility

However it did not work. Also tried the RTL8187SE but that was not recognized as the driver either.

based on my experience attempting to get my daughter's wireless network working with 64 - bit win7, i'd say it is entirely possible your wireless usb adapter will not have 64 - bit win7 drivers. jessi bought units, both usb adapters and pci slot cards, from linksys, netgear, and d-link and none of them would work. eventually, i got a cheap belkin usb adapter from walmart to work flawlessly.

What router?

The router is a

Motorola SBG900 Wireless SURFboard Gateway

but

it's the wireless usb tower that I can't install on the Windows & 64 bit PC

Here is a pic of the device in question. I use the exact same model  on MY PC and my step sons old one and we have never had a problem with install. Thsi new PC is the first 64 bit I have ever had to work with.

It keeps saying no driver has been installed. I assume tht is because there is no 64 bit driver on the disk. I'm kinda surprised it has worked for me on Vista since the disc has drivers for 2000, ME, and XP only.

Po'..........bearing in mind the age and the fact that it's a 'b' adapter you're most probably better off replacing it with a 'g' or 'n' adapter..........won't cost you much either. Looks like Gary's on the case too and let's see what he has to say.

Try installing the 32 drivers in compatibility mode.

Thats wahta I m thinking

Try installing the 32 drivers in compatibility mode.

I almost clicked on 'run in compatibility mode'.

How do 'install' the drivers like that?

If you have to resort to getting a new one Po' consider this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124093

Good deal. It's a Linksys and I've had very good products from them and their customer service is excellent too. Newegg are good too. It's a 'n' and the price in the cart is $39.99........a $30 saving.

Right click on executable, run for Vista.

Look in Device Manager, what's yellow flagged?

Look in Device Manager, what's yellow flagged?

The adapter is yellow flagged under 'Other' as 'Unknown Device'.

When I troubleshoot it it says it's a hardware or software issue. I swappwed it with mine on my PC and it works fine. When I troubleshoot further it says the 'drivers have not been installed' or 'no drivers can be found'

* Iid what you said and it seemed to actually install and dumped an icon for it on my desktop. When it rebooted it said the Program can not run because AW32N50.dll was not found on my computer and I should try reinstalling the program.

I searched the PC for it to be sure. nadda. I also searched the install disc and the PC could not find it there either.

forgot to add...When I click on the desktop icon for Lan Express I get the same message.

Right click on 'Unknown Device'. Click update driver. Click Browse for driver. Click let me pick. Un-check Show Compatible hardware. Pick MS driver

AW32N50.dll

That's a networked printer

okay. WIll have to try in the morning cause I hadda let the boy go to bed. FOrgot to mention I used Vista Service Pack 2 for the compatability mode.

How do I pick 'MS' driver?

*FOUND THIS FORUM on current .dll issue and wireless issue but can't understand all the technical stuff

How do I pick 'MS' driver?

List/ Microsoft/ WLAN USB. Broadcom WLAN drivers are usually compatiable also.

It's not the 64 bit that's the problem....it's that 'thing' you're trying to hook up...

....ya can't polish shit.

I'll give it a shot in the a.m. and let you know. Thanks. Just seeing the icon on the desktop gives me some hope.

Un-check Show Compatible hardware.

There is no option to to' Un-check'

List/ Microsoft/ WLAN USB.

I went through the list and found one item for Microsoft but in it's list was just an Xbox controller drive

I have no idea where you're looking....

What does the yellow flagged device now show as in Device Manager?

It shows the same 'Unknown Device'.

I found the drives for these things. Problem is I don't know the manufacturer and under 'Microsoft' I cannot find the one you mentioned.

I uninstalled the damn thing and this time on the setup.exe I let Windows 7 troubleshoot the compatability issue and used it's recomended settings which is to run it under Windows XP Service pack2. I'm installing and rebooting now.
