Be wary of sealing up a home too tight, homes should breath. If they don’t they create what we call “Ion Prisons”, which generally can lead to sick building syndromes, people with asthma, or worse.
Negative ions are essential for good health, and most modern homes are treacherous, filled with synthetic materials, toxic building materials, and are so tightly sealed they have an over abundance of positive ions. This is not a good thing. A friend of mine constructed a million dollar home a couple of years ago, and his entire family has manifested chronic medical conditions since moving into it. His kids now have severe asthma and breathing difficulties.
When I test homes(especially so-called green homes) with my expensive Air Ion Density Tester, I find universally, they are void of healthy negative ions, and have too many positive ions. http://www.trifield.com/ion_detector.htm The newer the home, the more likely this is a result, as older homes have crappy insulation, but this means they “Breathe”.
Anything synthetic and almost all “Tech” tend to “Eat” healthy negative ions, and push out unhealthy positive ions, in effect they ruin our environment and homes, and the end result is they help ruin our health. This isn’t new, the ancients called positive ion winds “Witches Winds” because they caused all kinds of mental and physical issues, accidents increased, and people’s moods turned sour. Humans have evolved over thousands of years to be in negative ion rich conditions, positive ions are never considered healthy.
If you are unfamiliar with negative ions, then it would be wise to research the topic in great detail. A lack of them can cause many chronic illnesses, including long term depression. Most people I find with depression often live and work in ion-depleted environments, and I have the instruments to test this and prove it to them directly. Negative ions have a remarkable effect on pollution, particles, and germs, they drop them out and kill them. You can see a video on how fast negative ions remove smoke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klqVapmohgc
If I was to build a new home, I would probably build-in negative ion projectors into each room, like an intercom system. Someone gets sick, you dial it up, everyone is fine, you dial them down. Be wary though, MOST commercial negative ionizers do not work in my testing, in fact they seldom emit any discernable negative ions.
The best ones I have found are these:

I don’t like CFL’s (Mercury, UVB, EMF-Radiation, etc), but Ionizing CFL’s actually do emit an amazing amount of negative ions, so they are quite effective in some circumstances, such as in bathrooms and kitchens.

Some links to start researching this stuff, and why homes are “Sick”, and how the govt. knows all about negative ions, but doesn’t want you to know about them…
