TEC vs. Vasari fleet fight

I'm playing as the TEC (not my normal choice) against the Vasari CPU. My fleet is the same size as his, if not a little larger. However, every time I try to fight him he wins. In particular, I jump into the system, and I focus fire all my major ships (capitals and cruisers) at one of his capital ships. Every time I get it's life down to critical, a shimmering barrier surrounds it and it heals a couple thousand HP.

Now, I watched its anti-matter, and I know IT cannot be healing itself. So the vasari must have healing ships in the fleet. No matter how much I focused on it, I could not bring it down.

Can someone help with some TEC vs Vasari strategy? My assumption is that next time I should target smaller ships in his fleet, taking them out until only the capital ships remain. THEN hit them. Is that a good choice?

Thanks for any suggestions

Yes that would be a good choise. People are often to quick to call primary on the caps quite often and they miss teh more important and critical support cruisers that are keeping his fleet alive.

I do it some times to people who call my capital ship primary. I keep my cap alive by repairs while my fleet kills his fleet. Eventuly my fleet ahs taken little to no loses while he has been replacing his ships like crasy, this results in em having a larger fleet and then I can wipe his cap out and start pushign heavyly on him.

I would liek to help you mroe but you would need to give me a complete fleet makeup of your fleet and his fleet.

The ship that's doing this is the Overseer.  It instantly heals for 750 health (the only instant hull heal ability in the game) and temporarily increases the armour of the target by 2.  Thankfully, the armour boost doesn't stack between multiple uses.  You'll need to take the Overseers out of commission of you want to kill his capital ships.

An alternative would be to use your own Hoshiko.  The Hoshiko is basically a mobile repair bay which has a much more efficient healing effect than the Ovseer (it's not instant, however).  This will allow you to wait until he runs out of antimatter to continue his healing and then go for the kill.

The only Vasari capital ship that can heal is the Skirantra Carrier, which is actually very powerful and can heal everything in its area of effect.  The Skirantra's healing ability is the only one in the game that affects strike craft.

It instantly heals for 250 health, not 750. In other words... as long as he has overseers, and his overseers have antimatter... (try a donov emp or 2) you prolly wont be able to kill whatever your trying to kill.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Overseer instantly heal 250 hull points? It does in Vanilla Sins at least...

If you have a Dunov hanging around with EMP Bomb, that can help by depleting the antimatter of the Overseers, but the 50/45/40 second cooldown time prevents it from being able to stop Overseers on its own.

Silly me, yeah, it's 250, not 750 :-P

If you really wanna focus fire on his capitals. Its best to get your SC out infront and let them lay into the Capital, Itll be toast before the overseers ability could kick in.

Ah yes, and you can just pull a level 6 Marza out of a hat.  Easier said than done my friend; more often than not that luxury is unavailable to you.

Agreed.  I have this problem a lot.  Though i'm a bit more peeved at my enemy's battleship cap (Who's name eludes me at the moment...)  which can heal its shields so quickly with a power surge.

As a tec player going up ageist the vsari a stradegy I use is to build a balanced fleet x2; for example, 4 Cap ships, 10 Kodiak’s, Cobalt’s, Javeli’s and Hashiko’s. Give the cobolt’s and the Hashiko’s their abilities if you can (i.e. Sabotage Reactor – Cobalt, Demolition Bots - Hashiko). Now dido this fleet. Now you have 2 equal smaller fleet. Note: this example takes almost half of you fleet resource tree.

Jump them to together and try to keep them together. Tell one fleet to target the Cap ship (this will keep the Overseer’s busy) then take control of the other fleet and take out their Overseer’s. I might target some enforcer’s if they are doing a lot of damage. Or sometimes I might not tell the first fleet to target anything, let the first fleet do what it wants. But take the second fleet and start taking out their support.

Also; I find it’s important for the tec to always try to keep your military tree research as much as you can, shields, hulls and weapons.

This is why my major fleets always have one of each cap ship at leasts for the diversity of abilities. Also use the ion cannon on the colony cap liberaly. Its not a top tier ability, doesnt take much antimatter per shot and can completely shut down a ship for a bit. Not that long but long enough to make a difference. Use it on caps that have the ability to heal or help the rest of the fleet. If there is a lot of overseers though it might be more efficient to kill them first. Dont be afraid to let the battle draw out a bit. That is to your advantage as a tec player because between hoshiko's, shield restore, and embolden, you can stay alive alot longer than the other races. Vasari have to blow thier load early and advent are screwed once they run out of antimatter. My take on it...
