Pirates in diplomacy

I know I read that the pirates would get stronger as the game went on but HOOLYY CRAP did I underestimate them, I was playing single player to check out the changes and the computer and I got into a bidding war as usual when i finnaly get to the last pirate base is see that it has about 7-8 hundred ships not exagerating at all. built a fleet to max size with max caps and swarmed the place, I won ... with 10 caps and 12 frigates remaining. conclusion, DONT FEED THE PIRATES.

side note: the expansion looks great, thirteen hours into a single player game and i've noticed no bugs or issues of any kind. I'll keep looking though.

Well, I'm glad that at least one person isn't experiencing all the bugs we left for you guys to find. In any case we've tried to make the pirates more of a threat, and we'll be adding a few more fun tweaks to them before release.

I just had pirates jump into a gas giant (from the nether), and then jump with a huge fleet to one of my planets.  Since when can they stage strikes from gas giants?  Cool, but now I'll have to guard my back against non-planet locations too?  Devs, any word if this is part of the 'new harder pirates' or should I be considering this a bug?  (Community: feel free to bonk me on the head if this has been normal behaviour for a while, but I've never noticed it before).

been studying it more (I work on the Distant Stars Mod with the pirates) and in checking the code it looks like they gave the pirates the ability to research hitpoint upgrades, that may come in handy for DS

I had trouble trying to get zillions of pirate ships to appear at the pirate base... even after both the computer and I fed them over 100,000 credits each...

What I am preety sure was happening, was that in your game... the pirates would raid planets... and then what was left of the raiding party returned to the pirate base.   In my game the pirates never got the chance to return to the pirate base... (they allways attacked me... was playing against the new 5x resources ai.... ai always could out bounty me) so the pirate defence fleet in my game never grew, while in your game the pirate fleet kept growing for every sucessfull raid.

In other words... the pirate defence fleet only grows if ships from a raid make it back to the base.

Thats why SB in every un colo grav well between you and the pirates is awsome. Phase destablization ftw. rofl.

One thing that would be nice is to be able to put bounty on a particular planet/structure/ship rather than an entire civilisation. So you could get pirates to snipe out some unprotected labs which would be a bigger improvement than just improving ships which are still going to waste themselves uselessly on defesnes anyway
