[Suggestion] A little GalCiv2 in Sins

This might just be me being me, but please bear with me.

In GalCiv2, when you use a Spy you place them on a planet on to a particular building. When she/he/it is placed, they begin to siphon or reduce the efficiency of said structure each turn until the other faction performs counter espionage to remove them. While they do this, they also increase your intelligence level allowing you to see more info over time.

So here is my suggestion, if I may make one: Instead of having multiple abilities you pick to use, have toggled abilities that perform a variety of things depending on which abilities are researched for the Envoy ships.

Some Examples:

  • The Envoy ships siphon/reduce planetary credit/resource income.
  • The Envoy ships slow research time based on the number of labs at that planet.
  • The Envoy ships slow the spread of culture from a planet.

This is far from a perfect system, but it's just a concept.  Have at it, I just had to put this idea out there.

I am in full agreement on this! More espionage options NEED to be in the expansion. Undermine does almost NOTHING as of now. Plus it would be nice to see some race specific options in the diplomacy tree. Right now they are all the same

these are great ideas

these are great ideas... for something other than a diplomatic cruiser. imho.

A spy cruiser/frig would be intresting... maybe a cruiser that doesnt have diplomatic immunity... but doesnt have to follow phase lanes.... ?  and infallable phase jumps should affect them. It should be a higher tech level than the diplomatic cruiser.

then you have your diplomat and your spy.

This is one of my exact thoughts.  Diplomats often times are held in such scruitiny that they usually aren't capable of being spies (although they could do be doing something).

A Spy/Espionage ship that would require another Spy/Espionage ship to discover could add a lot of cloak and dagger gameplay.  Give these ships the ability to trigger their own little pirate raids, and we've got stealthy flank attacks that could circumvent huge minefields and starbases.

this was one of my favorite (and also the one that most often pissed me off) aspects from Hegmony. A spy frigate that could wreak secret havok would be a great addition to this expansion. Besided they have to add a new frig since all the new stuff they added in entrenchment was on cruisers :-)

I'm evil when it comes to economically trying to ruin another player.  So anytime I get the option to undermine somebody and simply annoy them in such a manner I jump at the chance.  Of course, it's equally as "fun" to have it happen to you.

:)  Spy ships with counter spy "vision" and secret Pirate raids as well... hmmmm... very nice idea!

I like this idea. But I do remember in a earlier pre-released thread one of the dev said that they had a whole big set of esponge stuff would be released if we enjoyed it and asked the devs to move in this direction.   I really like the esponage ability. The esponage ability works best to speed up the 0% loyalty thing with the help of the over powering ability of the Transmitter.  I would love to see some of these ideas intatuded. But as earlier talked about this is the skeleton of the game I look forward to the meat and threw my critees help the Devs shape the game.

I'm just hoping more of the options we get with epionage lead down the path of economically hampering an opponent.  Thus far, we haven't really seen much in terms of economic warfare.

Hmm, well lets not forget the diplomacy expansion is STILL IN BETA, and the game is NOT FINISHED

I don't think anyone is neglecting this fact.

I'm just pointing something out that should be considered and be noted by the developers, as well as other players, as another aspect of warfare that is completely viable.
