The Prisoner - 2009

So, has anyone been watching the new Prisoner mini-series?

Any comments?

Personally, as a fan of the original, I am rather disappointed.

If you have never seen the original series, you can watch it (well, at least the first half or so) here:

No doubt, you will get more enjoyment from the original than from the poorly done remake.

Wow! No one watching The Prisoner mini-series?

Can't blame you, really. It was a total let down, in every way.

Having watched and enjoyed the first one, I saw no reason to see the remake.  From the previews it seems they're trying too hard to be campy and cereberal, and are failing.

As far as I know, McGoohan was not involved in this remake.  Considering how instrumental he was in the original, I can't seem to care one bit about this.

Sadly, Patrick died early this year - 1/13/09.

"From the previews it seems they're trying too hard to be campy and cerebral, and are failing."

You got that right.

It seems, too much these days, the studios are trying to 'remake' instead of 'make'.

It seems there is no new talent, no new ideas, anymore. It is just simply trying to make the best into something better 'for the modern way of thinking'. And it never works.

It's funny. I was so excited about this new Prisoner, and I told my 13 year old daughter about it. So we were both looking forward to watching it.

I think she had watched some of the original series when she was really little, but she does not remember it.

We watched the first episode of the new Prisoner, and at the end she said she was not really impressed.

Tonight we watched 'Arrival', the first episode of the original series. She liked it, and said it was more interesting than the new show. The actors and acting are better, and the storyline is better. The music is better too. I am sure she will want to watch as many episodes of the original as are available, but she cares not for any more of this new series.

I wonder how much money was spent on this piece of crap. As I said, it was a total let down.

I was aware Mcgoohan had died, however I was referring to this quote by his wife:

'In his mind, it was finished,' Joan McGoohan said. 'But then these fan clubs turned up.' A cult following has since endured for decades. Later this year, American Movie Classics will air a remake of the series, starring James Caviezel and Sir Ian McKellan.

'They wanted Patrick to have some part in it,' McGoohan's wife said, 'but he adamantly didn't want to be involved. He had already done it.'

ORANGE ALERT... ORANGE ALERT!

Having watched the original airing of The Prisoner back in '67, I was naturally curious about this 2009 version.

It didn't work for me at all on any level I'm afraid. I just couldn't wrap my head around this for reasons too numerous to explain.

Patrick McGoohan must be turning in his grave over this one!
