Fantasy Creatures
We absolutely positively need one of these.

it becomes easier to handle a creature creator if you have cut-paste parts, like that of a robot. So the arms may not blend at all with the body or something like that. But I'm with pigeon on this on all the way. I mean, it would be nice for an expansion I suppose (Expansion primary features: complex creature creator + advanced dungeons) however since we can just model in our own creatures, I don't see why they would spend that much time on it. Since those with 3D skills are going to be able to make units anyway, and stardock is already planning to put forward the effort to make it easy for us to do so. It would be redundant to ALSO have a monster creator.
I'm with pigeonpigeon and landisaurus on this, the time needed to make a decent creature editor / creator is probably better spend on some other features. Although it would be nice to have, there are more important parts to put time in (Economic model, diplomacy, ... ), otherwise we'll just end up with a Spore 2: Nice Editor, No Game.
okay ... then I will be happy to reject this idea IF!!! there will be the occasional tribe of lizardmen hidden in a cave of some-sort (same goes for centaurs and minotaurs) .... and occasionally a small pack of isolated wyverns living in a secluded valley ... to either kill or capture and tame. (perhaps some treasures nearby)
I suppose what I mean to say is ... I would like for living dungeons to not only be "places to kill stuff and get exp" but possibly places to make diplomacy with the inhabitants, perhaps limited trade (items, ect), and perhaps hiring mercenaries (what If I want to build a metropolis where humans, lizardman, centaurs, and minotaurs can live? Perhaps I can build a Lizzie ghetto, Centaur ghetto, Minotaur ghetto- with their own locations/population counts, and I can recruit from such population to get such units) Alternatively you could some-how keep track of what percentage of population is centaurs/lizardmen, and have a % chance equal to their percentage in the population, for each soldier made to be one of them .... with whatever weapon and items the other soldier would of had, but simply no armor (if they are not able to wear the armor).
I'd just like to have some limited interaction with this minor semi-human tribes scattered throughout, in some way, up to hiring for mercenaries or bringing them to my city to live. Of course, there is always the choice to kill them for exp and such ... and while this could net the most gold and magical items, you would perhaps lose your chance to interact with that race. (minor race as it may be)
same goes for a wild pack of wyverns, nightmares, lesser-drakes, or Rhinocerouses, Boars, or Lava-Salamanders .... these might not be intelligent enough to interact with on a civilized level, but such animals could be tamed into being mounts ready for warfare (of course, these such mounts would be rare finds in the Wilderness and, other than the Rhino, incredibly hard to tame "so you might see Rhino riders several times in 5 games, but a regiment of Wyvern riders only once")
Things like this have been suggested many times over the past year; there have been entire threads devoted to how NPC 'nations,' beasts and other miscellaneous creatures should factor into diplomacy and all.
I think it's pretty sure that we won't be building lizard ghettos or anything, but it's already been stated (who knows if this will change) that the method of recruiting or otherwise getting ahold of magical creatures & such will be through some sort of negotiation/diplomacy. We won't be capturing communities of creatures and then be able to start pumping them out like regular troops or anything.
This is a completely different story. A Spore-like creator, while very cool, doesn't provide that much fun in the end, as you you might expect. On the top of that, the cost (time, money) of writing such system is immense. I agree, that only one race is too little, and that's why we need some pack of monsters, monster lairs or independent kingdoms (for example elves). After you conquer a kingdom, tame beasts or ally with some commune, you should be able to build units based on your new allies.
