Well, I can see what tesb means, in that they get involved in all that stuff, but much like electing a government official, at least you have a choice. And there really is no limit on what you believe, just the support nearby.
As for my statement, I wasn't referring to monotheism and polytheism. I was thinking more along the lines that western religions (ranging from Egyptian to Bahaism) tend toward a god which can be quantified in some way, usually depicted as a person. If not that, they at least have a general human trait, such as the ability to plan, desire, etc.
Not that it really matters. As I stated above, I can believe whatever I want.
