Ravionopolis is the principal economic and cultural city on Ravion.
Characteristics
Situated on stabilized sand in the Yutuhl Expanse, Ravionopolis is an economic and industrial juggernaut of the Saiv Empire and a testament to the civil unity brought about by Emperor Isharo. The market value of all products produced in 2130 A.D. totalled 2.92 quadrillion Imperial Sahelms ($10.84 quadrillion) and the city's factories are capable of processing 19.6 trillion tonnes of construction material annually.
Being the most affluent city of the Empire, Ravionopolis is home to numerous prestigious institutions, usually situated outside the CBD. The state-controlled Aegle Academiohn offers the finest and most disciplined military training in the Empire, producing the universally feared Valkyrie droptroopers and darkly Pretorians. Standing among a plethora of cultural museums, the Magistry of Clockwork Engineering showcases the technological prowess of Saiv civilisation and offers higher teaching in the way of mecha. On the outskirts of the city, the Storm Academy offers rare education in the amplification and manipulation of latent psychic power.
Despite what the nocturnal nature of the Saiv would suggest, the city is illuminated by weakened lights during night to ease the hormonal stress incurred by ambient darkness.
History
Ravionopolis was founded by Emperor Isharo in 663 A.D. when he constructed a massive igeocrete "bedlay" in the center of the baking desert of the Yutuhl Expanse, then forcefully moved industrial bases from across the planet onto it. Isharo guided the civilian development of numerous businesses, factories and institutes into a bustling CBD of the future Ravionopolis, ensuring that all buildings were interlinked via a sentient, adaptable clockwork mainframe. Having no choice but to follow their source of employment, millions of civilians migrated to the new city, gradually expanding the initial igeocrete bedlay outwards to form urban sprawl.
By 2130 A.D., Ravionopolis covered an area of 63,637 square miles and had an urban population of about 2.31 billion, many of them commuters.
In 2131 A.D., Ravion was devestated by a Xin'Ta'Faxi attack, and Ravionopolis had to be evacuated. Much of the city remains intact to this day, but largely inhospitable.
