In my second DS post Vei (Violet) was seen coughing due to illness. This illness was rapid atrophy, which afflicts Saiv at the end of young adulthood. It can be compared to human aging but this is not cellular mutation, rather exhaustion of cellular processes. Since the illness can become extremely painful as it progresses, most Saiv choose to "euthanise" shortly after the end of young adulthood.
Most of Ravion's wildlife are natural hazards and quickly become predatorial towards foreign species. To adapt to this, the feline ancestors of the Saiv evolved fast reflexes, which were passed on to the Saiv themselves. Their young adulthood lasts for most of their lives, since young and elderly individuals lack the reflexes necessary to survive.
The average lifespan of a proletarian male is 90 yrs and that of a female is 105 yrs. Roughly speaking, these Saiv are considered adolescents by age 3 and adults by age 4. Young adulthood statistically lasts for 90% of the lifespan.
You may have noticed in my fourth DS post that five individuals are mentioned but, when sat at the table, I say that they total six. The sixth member is a long-dead phantom residing in phase space noise, who has agreed to serve the Empire for longer than his/her time alive. He/she was an agent of the Phazmamoniohn, the ghostly intelligence agency of the Saiv Empire, prior to joining forces with Sonvra Nike.
