NO!

The Dark Dragons do not use Lascannons

Though they don't have to worry about the plasmas overheating

But no Lascannons

Maybe an occasional Missile Launcher

And yeah, might want a Devastator squad with 2 Heavy bolters and a Heavy Plasma and a Melta Gun

@Ryat- why not? Lascannons are cool.

@Ghost- those are cylons and you know it. Besides, Space Marines pwn Cylons+Borg AT THE SAME TIME. 'Nuff said.

Its a lore issue, because yeah they are cool.

The Dark Dragons were lost in a warp storm on their home planet not long after the Heresy. During that time they made contact with an ancient race that had a dragon-like appearance and abilities (like fire breath). The race felt that the time of Man was ascending and so pledged to help the Space Marines. Much of their tech was fire based, hence the Space Marines adopted much of their tech to their own. And sadly much of the tech that was not based on fire was lost (aside from bolters) which included the lascannon. Hence when the warp storm left the planet they viewed the lascannon as something useless and no longer use them. But they get to use their plasma cannons without fear of the overload issue because they had the tech to improve the plasma cannons.

I think the Borg would hold their own.... just saying.

As for the Space Marines, I'm usually going with heavy bolters just to meet a happy middle with range and damage, but when facing the Necron Lord, missiles knock him around, neutralizing his presence. While they hold him, I build missile towers to then take up the slack and move the men elsewhere.

And Terminators take point. They just handle it better.

Indeed, you would think that if the Imperium doesnt start actually, you know inventing new things then the Tau would surpass them technologically...although the Tau seem to have already done that, just the Imperium still has numbers on them.

Yeah well...the Imperium's fear of technology (due to the 10 000 years living as Techno-barbarians), research, experimentation and scientific method, thier whole technological base sit on the STCs (Standard Template construct), which is partially why not every guardsmen in the Imperial guard doesn't have power armour and super powerful weapon.

 

The STCs are actually some manifacturing machine/engeneering schematics.

 

Back in the good ol' days before the Iron men we build (AKA robots) decided to pull a classic sci-fi moment and rebel against us, the bulk of human knowledge was stored in STCs; no one actually knew how to build things, they jsut turned the big machine at "ON" and started pumping bolters, plasma guns, melta cannons Baneblades...

Now when there's even a 0.000000000001% there's some sTc soemwhere, the Terch-Priest sends a shitlaods of troops to secure it..then spend a few hundreds of eyars studying it, then maybe, just maybe it'll be somehting that will be mass-produced to the service of the Imperium (that is, if it's not jsut brought to MArs, stored into a large vault and forgotten)
