[suggestion] Make it so you cant see what the other guys race is untill you meet them

ok... so I was playing a 1v1... i was on random... try and get a little edge so that my opponent wouldnt know who i might be..

 

hes like... herm,... your vasari, i advent i am not sure this will go well for me...

and i am like WTF you havent eve nsee me yet, how the hell do you know that?

and...

he looked at the diplomacy screen.

 

he mentions that he does that alot and everyone thinks he uses some all-seeing hax or something.

I dont know about you... but it doesnt make much sence for you to know what race your enemy is before you meet them... i mean its like... doesnt make much sence... you know?

SO,. as a feature of diplomacy... i think it would be nice if you had a questionmark as a portrate untill you mean said questionmark.

what do you all think?

interesting. I think that this would certainly be useful for online players; HOWEVER- during a game start you can see the race someone picks if they don't use random (I have only ONCE every used random).

If it was possible to just show 'random' for anyone not allied to you, or in-game, anyone you haven't encountered yet, that would be neat.

Anonymous function would be good. That way for MP a player is assaigned an AI name until he is killed. Once a player dies he is revealed. WOuld make for fun FFA where you know the players ahead of time.

The problem is also in single player....when you set it to random, I play as tec only, if I were to set it to random there is a chance that the ai would ALSO choose tec. My single player "stories" don't envolve tec vs tec. :annoyed:

You should be able to set to random but NOT THE SIDE YOUR PLAYING. This way I would'nt know whether I'm up against vasari or advent until I meet them.

I think i wished this for the 1.1 patch, or Entrenchment? Still i would be happy if it made it to Diplomacy.

I agree. though, its not like strategy changes all that much in SP. For MP it should be hidden from all players in the game, until people decide to be on a team.

The only problem with this is this would neer work. You can spot the enemy's scout to figure out what he is. To get what you're aiming for everyone would have to be blanketed so you don't know which person is which race. That could get a little too hairy.

Seeing his scout is "seeing him". Personally I was talking that you can't see races in the lobby, or in game setup. like 3 minutes into the game you are going to know mot of everything anyways, but it might put a spin on things if you dont know you are going up against 2 advent 2 tec and a vasari, if your team chose to be all advent.

rofl! Yeah, being on random only helps in that your opponent wont be able to decide on a specific race to esp. counter your choice. This in turn forces them to pick the race that they feel most skilled with; which is what ends up happening anyway. But yeah, a ? and grayed out port. would be nice.

herm... while were at it... It would be awesome to be able to pick "not advent".. that way... I can pick "random" but wont end up advent.

i think there should also be an option to pick random but not TEC or Advent.

Also, can there be a third variation on the unlocked/locked multiplayer, where allies are locked so that an ai will take over for a drop, but the locked allies don't share planet and ship vision.  Then you would have to rely on your ally describing what was happening- and they couldn't know what you were up to.  Many commanders had to rely on the communication abilities of their subordinates..

One more time- why are players you have a cease fire with included in ally chat, they're not allies?

Yeah that kinda fubars the ally chat, doesn't it? Obviously diplomacy issues weren't well thought out for Sins of a Solar Empire... hence the expansion we are getting ;)
