Wasn't sure whether to put this here or in off-topic...

In all honesty, I didn't read the article, just the first few sentences. But it made me immediately think of phase lanes in Sins!

To save you a click: "Gravitational corridors could help spacecraft ply the solar system like ships borne on ocean currents, it has been disclosed by scientists investigating space travel"

I guess those phase lanes weren't just to control where you could fly =P

It isn't much like Sins to be honest.  It is simply a way of using less fuel by exploiting the way different planets' and the Sun's gravitational fields interact with each other.  You wouldn't be travelling much faster than normal, you'd just use less fuel.

It would actully take longer.

that thing is bullshit, just an ingame mechanic to make it more tactical.I would like to try a game with opportunity to jump everywhere from anywhere [ this is where it gets more interesting]

edit:

wow..you should read the articles....I might meet my 70's on my villa at mars.

Well, yeah, I got that much from the first few sentences.

But it could give an alternate explanation for why phase lanes are the way they are. For people who want "reasons" for things anyway.

If you had hundreds of ships you were gonna launch light-years away, you'd probably pick the cheapest flight path (though the article suggests that wouldn't be straight)

The phase lanes are kind of similar to the Alderson jump points that were described in the excellent sci-fi novel The Mote In God's Eye.  Because of how stars are positioned about the galaxy, a special jump drive allows you to quickly travel along certain lines or some such.

Oops, was an accidental duplicate post.

Whippersnapper-DirtySanchez.... you have CenturionJixra's avatar. It's a strange thing to copy the avatar of an outspoken and frequently posting forum member.

NM, ignorance has been alleviated, thanks Carbon.
