ideas

1) pirates' own capital ships can get technology that they stole, bought or otherwise from another race.  Their cap ships might have to have capped abilities, so less multiple abilities than other races' ships.

 

2) pirates stealing a non-protected cap ship is cool.  It SHOULD be difficult to do and only possible if the race is dumb enough to leave one unguarded; BUT, the cap ship should not be fully functional, which can be remedied by offering something to the race the cap ships was stolen from or otherwise.  For example, the pirates steal a cap ship level 3 from the advent.  They can try to ransom the ship back OR ransom techs and upgrades with the pirates who CANNOT build one of their own but can utilize the stolen one.  So it may be that the pirates say "look, give me the ability to unlock this cap ship ability and 1) we will not use it to attack you and/or 2) we will ignore orders to attack you for a specified amount of time.

 

3) pirates should have some level of self preservation so that they know when to leave.

 

4) working with the pirates in whatever way softens their hatred of you meaning perhaps they leave your grav well earlier than usual or go for less important targets (you know, keeping up appearances), but that could come with diplomacy penalties when other races (even your allies) realize this.

I'd like to see a limited resource system implemented or as an option.  Astroids for crystals and Minerals should have a limited reasonable quantity and a production curve. 

-a Mine Life cycle, should have have something like a bell curve production cycle.  This would cause the whole market for reasources to make sense.

-it would encourage more aggressive game play and risky tactics to be used in order to obtain more resources!

I always find the early game to be most exciting but the late game to be too routine, I think limiting the resources would help solve that and make certain technologies more relavent!:grin:

Agreed. Pirates are criminals, not insanely brave suicidal fighters.

They should leave when they have gathered all their money. Its stupid that pirates will destroy everything if you let them regardless if the bounty is 100 credits or 100000 credits

  Good point.  Also, why are Vasari the only ones intelligent enough to spread propaganda that lessens pirate raids?  Anyone can send a message saying something like "Your presence will not be tolerated.  P.S. We have bigger guns."

Oversimplified, but true.

  As for Pirate Capitol Ships, if anyone is familiar with Uzii's mod, which integrated derelict shipyards, some of those were weakened Capitols.  How about something like that.  (P.S., Derelict Shipyards in-game would be awsome, even though realisticly these would have been salvaged at the beginning of the war...)

Well the Devs have already spoken about pirates Caps. They said no, but pirates were getting some love another way.

If you really want pirate Caps, either mod it or us Distant Stars mod which has some serious evil pirates with Caps and SB.
