Going into hospital soon

Going into hospital soon

Some of you might know I have a bad back. No less than two prolapsed discs in the lower spine. Well next Thursday I'm going into hospital for an injection in my spine. Scans have shown the nerve which goes into my left leg is twice the size of the right...

I should only be in overnight, but I'll have about a week at home recovering.

My back isn't too good right now. After moving my old 21" CRT to make way for a new widescreen, I'm paying for it with extreme pain.

Right now I'm on a maximum dose of Dihydrocodeine and Diazepam, the combined effect of which I'm lead to believe is like taking heroin... Needless to say I have this odd feeling of invincibility :)

Astonishing.

I was admitted to hospital at 1:00 pm. At 3:30pm I am home. Apparently they only keep you in if you have a reaction, and I've had none.

Actually, I have had a reaction. They say it will ache for a few days - but the aching I have right now is only 10% of the pain I had a few hours ago... I'll take that.

I must take it easy though and not do anything stupid. This has gone really well and I'm not going to spoil it

Same to all you other guys with bad backs; it sounds pretty hideous.

Hideous orright... speshully when somebody quips: "Ah, shagger's bach, eh!".... and that wasn't the reason. :'(

:-"

Glad to hear it went well for you, Fuzzy, :sun: all the best in your rcovery.

Follow instructions, Fuzzy.

Well, the backache has gone, but... I have severe sciatic pain now. I guess that's what you get for pumping fluid into an inflamed nerve.

Been back to the Docs today. He's changed my tablets to something more suitable for this type of pain. I'm floating a little off the ground at the moment but they do seem to be having an effect.

I just wish this would all go away #:(

Well ...... trot on down to the Pub and take a couple of Pints....pain relief and all.......and if not all better in a few hours .... repeat....again and again. Anyway hope the Hospitol got it right and put the parts back in rightside up....or down. Whatever.>:( :)

I hope to hell they didn't do that mate! Btw, I have the same problem...but relatively little pain. One thing that really helped me with the sciatic pain was Indomethacin.

Frequently pain is eased until the anesthetic (local) wears off...then the pain resumes because the extruded pulpy material still presses on the nerve root.

Hope it eases off....ArileenDesign has been a rather ideal patient...hopefully a similar regimen would help you as well.

The Doc switched me to Tramadol, which appears to suit me better. I feel ok at the moment. But like all these type of meds, I never take them after 6 in the evening otherwise I can't sleep.

I hope to hell they didn't do that mate!

Of course they did ;) It was a nerve root injection.

As for exercise, the only thing I can do is cycling. As soon as my back settles I'll be starting again :)

Be careful with Tramadol...they give you a lot of energy. You might end up working yourself into another backache.
