Problem resuming Deskscapes

I just stumbled onto Deskscapes, and I love it. I am on the verge of sending in my twenty bux, but first I want to make sure its working correctly, it appears not.

I am running Vista Home Premium 64-bit, SP1  (I am not interested in putting on SP2). I have a Nvidia 9600GT with current drivers and 6 gigs of ram.

The problem I am having, is that it works fine untill the screensaver comes on, at which point the Dream stops, it does not "pause" it stops. If I right click the stopped Dream it says "Pause Deskscapes" if I pause it, and them resume it it does nothing.

I have seen many other posts with the same problem. I have 15 different screensavers, all 3D ones, and all of them cause the same activity. I read one post about the program not exiting properly but this is not the case. As cool as deskscapes is, if it goes off after 5 minutes when the screensaver comes on, it loses its luster. If this is resolved somehow, I will instantly purchase, otherwise I will steer clear...

Thanks for the time\

EDIT: It seems it finishes one loop and stops. So for instance on the grass waving one the screensaver will end and it will continue to animate untill the point where it normally loops and starts over, then it stops completly. Perhaps that will help you.

Well I bought it thinking updates mught solve it, but no, same thing. It does not do it with all dreams, just the ones that appear to be video. The ones with real 3D content like the rotating earth one never quit...

I expected the community to be more active than this...

What version of Nvidia drivers are you using? The newest ones have problems....try going back to 186.18.

Have you installed any codec packs? If so, it could be the problem. Try using Nirsoft's Installed codec to help trouble shoot it.

Use it to disable you codecs one at a time to seee it there's a conflict. I would start with any that are not Microsoft and are for mpeg.

Well i think you should have kept your money as this prog is far from ready to use. I have had similar problems but going to support causes more, they tell you to do this , that and the other and you will end up very confused . I would advise anyone to hold back on this prog till it is out of beta.

Well its not in beta, i mean there is a version in beta, but I am not using it.

I did try several differnt nvidia drivers to no avail. I had considered codec issues, however it does play fine, and since it only has a problem when it gets to the end of a video loop, it chooses not to "loop" after certain fullscreen programs run.

It will run all day without issues untill I load a certain screensaver or game. See if it does it for you, go downlaod a 3planesoft demo screensaver from 3planesoft.com and see how it affects the dreams. Like I said it only affects the ones that are video.

I will attempt to play with codecs but I have my doubts. I appriciate someone posting though. I will update soon

I am pleased to say I can reproduce this issue with the screensavers from 3planesoft.com.

Hopefully the solution will be simple, I will update this thread when I know more.

!!!!!

Wow I am impressed that someone from stardock actually reads, and greater still would be willing to download a demo to try an reproduce the issue.

I like the software so much and was getting bummed because I was beginning to feel like I wasted my money, but now I am excited at the prospect of getting it fixed.

It also performs the same way with nearly every 3d fulscreen game as well.

An interesting development.

After it freezes, if I play certain 2D games, it will restart again. If I try the screensaver it will freeze after 1 loop of the video. If I then run starcraft and quit, it will start again.

Sounds like a direct x issue to me.

Makes sense, since as the developer he'll be the one to fix it.  Perfect timing too, with DeskScapes 3 around the corner.

Perhaps this is the wrong place, but since I just bought Deskscapes 2, will version 3 be a free upgrade for me? Or will I have to buy it again?

If you made the purchase recently, you should be upgraded when version 3 is released.

The only problems I have is when I am playing America's Army in fullscreen. Exit the game and poof..... my dream is all kinds of gone lol.

I think that is the same problem I am having, it looks like it will be fixed hopefully. I have noticed that sometimes it just goes completly black rather than just stopping.

Any news on this? It's been a while, any news on 3?

any news on 3?

DeskScapes 3 was released today.

There were a lot of fixes that went into 3 to help with resuming after a fullscreen app exits.  Hopefully it should resolve these issues.  Let us know if you're still seeing the problem.

How come I dont get Desckscapes 3 free?? I just bought the thing. No updates on impulse, and when I download 3 online it only installs a trial....dirty trick.

I bought it the day this thread was started, my subscription expires 9/10/2010. If I enable pre-release versions I can download the beta but I have no access to the full. The site says I should have free upgrades for a year right?

It sounds like there is a glitch somewhere as you should be seeing the full version.

If you uninstall the current Deskscapes and reboot, does Impulse then offer you Deskscapes 3?

Let me poke the sales team

While I'm doing that, can you reset the impulse data?

Gaijin01: it's listed on your account.  Are you still not seeing it?

Gaijin01: I noticed your registrations and your Stardock.net account were under two different accounts. I've merged these together and had your account information emailed to you.

Does this help things out any?

Hi Gaijin01,

Give this a try in Impulse:

-Click the blue menu button in the upper left
-Choose 'Preferences...'
-Click the 'Reset Data' button
-Close Impulse and relaunch it. You may notice a long update time, which is normal as it is rebuilding the deleted info.

I actually had the same problem you are having earilier today and doing a Reset Data did the trick.

Let us know if you have any further trouble!

Well the reset data did not work, but I took my serial number and clicked on the "Register Product" button and choose Deskscapes 3 from the menu and now it shows it as availible, downloading it now.

From whatI gather, impule sees Deskscapes 3 as a new product, not an update to an existing product...

Thanks for the registration merge thing, it has cause untold problems for me. I registerd before I bought the product to ask questions, but it would not let me download it after I purchased it, it wouldnt let me use that account, so I had to create a new account. Im glad to have that solved. I look forward to this program working right.
