Been away a few months, whats the status?

Haven't played for a few months, really like the game but got frustrated with the bugs and multiplayer not working very well.

Anyways, just wondering how stable things are now, when i last played skirmish and patheon were pretty much broken, and customs had just gotten proxi servers, but it still seemed to take a long time to find a full game.

My respect for GPG is undiminished.  The game itself is very good and the balance is pretty spectacular considering what most games can look like out of the gate.  Where Demigod lags behind in terms of the competition is everything before you get into a game - connectivity, matchmaking, rankings, lobby system, Pantheon behavior, etc.  I bitch a fair amount, but that is mostly because I see real potential in this game and I am sorry that it didn't quite live up to what it could have been.  The game has certainly captured my imagination since its release.

Yeah multi player lobby/mating and menu system UI is definitely my biggest problem with the game.  I don't even mind that there's not many maps and not tons of demigods, the main problem is that it's hard to convince my friends to have the patience to get into games (although that has improved a lot since release, just not enough).

You will also notice MooglesRcute that neither SD or GPG step into any of the threads (or none that I have looked at) to reassure the community that they have strict deadlines and that things will improve.  For the most part things haven't changed aside from the initial fixes to connectivity.  In terms of plans, there is a lot of stuff mentioned but everything is so wishy washy that there is no real commitment as far as I can tell.  It looks to me like GPG got their money for making the game and are pretty much not commited to seeing it succeed.  It's a shame too because I loved GPG for their Dungeon Siege games, now I kind of feel like I wouldn't buy their games again :/.

Basically 1.2 needs to come for me to jump back in. It should have already been out by now, (?) together with a couple of small fixes as far as I remember. Of course, I am not in a hurry and I got my moneys worth, something that could be improved is for it to be clearer communications when delays happen.

For proof of the community drop I just checked the custom games list and there were...2.  I then checked the HoN games list and there were...154.  This is why it is so hard to get into a game and thus why I play other games, I don't have time to sit and wait for a game, I want to actually play the game.  I hope Demigod can bounce back from this :(.

this thread makes me sad... :'(   It's really too bad, this game is super fun I wish more people played it maybe the new heros will help attract more people? But, if they are not free I don't even know if I will be buying them.

I looked at the other two games that you guys were talking about on this thread League of Legends and the other HoN. The graphics really don't compare at all to Demigods, but both of the other games have a stupid amount of heros. So I guess it comes down to preference. I'm interested to see how the other ones turn out... Will they be balanced? will they be fun?

I come from a background of playing DotA so graphics don't really matter to me that much.  I see these comments on here about graphics and I personally don't get them because for me it is all about the gameplay, I could care less if a game is beautiful if it plays like crap.  This is how I feel about DG vs LoL vs HoN:

  • Graphics: DG (although I think that DG needs some more variety beyond the drab and cold feeling stone/marble surface the heroes run on.  Perhaps something that fits like pillars and other small doodads.  Maybe even a forest or other type local)
  • Gameplay: HoN or LoL (DG has got some bugs that drive me nuts and there are little to no opportunities to really surprise your opponents because there is no cover to hide behind like trees or other objects that block line of sight)
  • Strategy: DG (HoN and LoL are very different from DG in that there isn't as much of a strategy element, it is more focused on combat than controlling flags or upgrading at the right time etc.)
  • UI: HoN
  • Lobby: HoN
  • Matchmaking: HoN (This has been explained numerous times)
  • Number of Heroes: HoN or LoL
  • Complexity of Heroes: DG
  • Items: HoN or LoL
  • Leavers: HoN then LoL then DG (HoN does it right I think, let the leaver sit in the base for 5 minutes then remove him, distribute items to other players, and then the other players gold intake is therefore increased because it is split between fewer people.  LoL just leaves the leaver at the base.  DG is the worst because they give you a retarded AI that hurts WAY MORE than it helps)
  • Disconnections: HoN or LoL (because they allow you to reconnect if you get disconnected)
  • Bugs: HoN or LoL (Honestly there are bugs but I haven't found any that have affected my gameplay, where as in DG the bugs hinder me from playing correctly)

Now, I say all of this in hopes that someone from GPG or SD can respond and say "Yeah, ok, we can fix a bunch of that.  We can fix the bugs, add some reconnect features and add some new heroes.  Oh and btw, we will be adding this in patch [insert patch here] and we estimate to deliver it on [insert date here]" and then do what they say.

As it is I cannot even find what is being put into v1.2.  There are journal entries on new Demigods but they don't say that they will be in 1.2.  I mean, how much is it to ask for a date?  Will it be the end of this month?  Next month?  Cmon, throw me a frickin bone here :P.

I agree with Mr11.

I've just bought Demigod and had decided not to buy HoN, because i like demigod gameplay/strategy, even thought there aren't many heroes. And yes, i think graphics could be important here too. Not the number one on priority list. But DG is so fu.cking beautiful, plus its soundtrack and sound effects are a blast.

Hoping they fix those things already mentioned many times before.

I'm sorry but next GPG game is a no...

Not enough patch, not enough talk in the forums, not enough feedback after that much time.

It may be difficult to pop-up a new hero (though I think it is a bad decision to not have created a hero creator mod in this kind of game... or at least map creator) but not fixing so much minor gameplay problem or hero bug = Bye. I did wait to see fixes and new content for 2 months, and never see something really nice to keep me playing. I did try to stay on demigod... At the beginning it was a very nice game and I had my fun for about a month.

I admire Frogboy replies in Demigod Journal section, and can't wait to see Elemental game.

I'm playing HoN BETA (yes beta not release) and it is more stable than demigod after 3 or 4 months of release... and there is a lot of patches and fixes to adjust gameplay and player feedback from playing the game. A lot of nice features that we will actually have and see in the release.

It was fun Demigod!!!

bye
