Sovereign's family....New tidbit

The new ign article had this info..

"In Elemental, while you play as an eternal sovereign you do have a noble family at the heart of your faction, and you can marry off sons and daughters to shore up alliances with other factions. This plays an important role in warfare, because suddenly factions have an emotional interest to come to one another's aid. It also means that the span of the game will cover multiple generations, so the familial ties can get quite complex."

I believe this is a new tidbit of info. Pretty exciting.

Oh well it's a stupid move on their part if they implement that stupid rule like AOW did. If you notice there's no AOW III.

That has nothing to do with why there's no AoW_III.  The AoW series was financially successful, overall high game ratings by gamers and a long term active forum community for each release, but the developers decided to pursue an RPG compatible with consoles called Overlord.

While Overlord was financially successful it's community forum soon became deadly silent.  Unlike the AoW community which is still alive and actively working on a second unofficial patch.

When the developers of AoW were asked why not developing AoW_III  the response was they wanted to try something different and they felt no more could be done with AoW.  We can't argue with the first half, but the second half was either BS or a lack of vision.

This whole disclosure about the effect of dynatic politics in the game is what has caught my attention.  Prior to that, I wasn't all that interested in Elemental, but now I can't wait!  I guess part of the reason is that so many medieval games focus strictly on building things and killing the other factions.  Sure, that can be fun, but I always wanted a game that provided equal focus on court intrique and personality.  Crusader Kings tried this successfully, but that game is getting a bit long in the tooth.  And Medieval Total War has princes and such, but it doesn't really go that deep.  I really hope that SD focuses a lot of effort on dynastic politcs as I believe that one element alone could go a long way in making Elemental quite unique and more engaging than other medieval conquest games.

Hi, all -- new to the board, although I've played GalCiv and SE for a while.

Dynasty = awesome. I dearly hope the team considers an option that allows sovereigns to exile/imprison/execute rebellious generals and family members -- but especially exile. I don't think it's an overly complex layer of detail and it would set up truly delightful opportunities for intrigue and political repercussions...
