knocking back enemies - uses?

Hi,

as this has raised it's head again with Oculus, what's the benefit of knocking back enemies? other than the graphics?

never really understood that one...

Well, it could move you out of range of your opponents attack, (Bite, pounce come to mind).  It could push them INTO range of an attack, perhaps for an ally like a Rook who is slow and cant catch them otherwise.

as a stun? (ie enemy can't act during knockback)

edit: ah, like Rook's God Strength, thought you ment a demigod vs demigod power. though the Oculus post doesn't really say if it includes demigods as well as minion/creeps.

sorry, i should've said.

knockback already exists and a few DG's have it(though can't think of an example skill now...mines?) the only thing i can see it does is send minions flying, but they are already dead at that point so it seems a little useless. (?)

piznit - as i understand it, this isn't applied to DG's.

Ed - stuns are called stuns.

nice answers all the same.

The Heaven's Wrath favor item knocks back enemies too. Altough it only does 250 damage I've seen it killing priest reinforcements, at least when they fall of the map in Cataract.

Heavens Wrath

Finger of God

Plus if you hit a minion like that and its a preist occasionally they land and survive

I'm intrested to see a relevant answer. I have yet to see it have an effect worth spending favor/gold for.

Knockback is not just a graphic.  The best way to explain it is to give an example. TorchBearers Fire Nova 1 deals 400 damage, but it knocks back all archers and priests within range of the skill.  The priests have more than 400 hp but the skill still kills them due to knockback.

One of the coolest things to do as torchbearer is to go to where 2 creep waves converge and kill all the preists and archers in one shot with a level 5 skill.

So you're saying that they get falling damage too?

the creeps instantly die when you knockback as they take immense damage when they hit the floor. its basically a 1 hit kill on creeps. useful for clearing out low level creep waves very fast (does not work on cats + giants though).

ShakeNBake is right... knockback is basically an instakill for anything smaller than a catapult.

Hmm could've sworn I saw some creeps survive this, but maybe they were just buffed really high.

twifightDG yea some survive, but they do take additional damage, and if they fall of the map they do die... knockback disables their ability to attack and I think it works on minions aswell (correct me if I'm wrong).

ah, cool.

nice answers guys \o/

Just about everything hit by knockback dies, regardless of damage (provided it's small enough to be effective, of course). Knockback also comes with splash damage attatched, which is fun.

By the way, the Rook gets knockback ("cleave") when his autoattack does more than 250 damage.

I love this. Rook can clear out hordes of minions just by swinging his arms around

Another reason Knockback is worth it is because it looks pretty cool ;P

True, however the animation is a bit slow IMO. It almost looks like a The Matrix scene..
