What sort of modding?

What sort of modding can we expect when Demigod eventually has modding support? It sounded like there wouldn't be any really be any Demigod or map editor; so what could we expect to see?

My guess would be interface improvements, sounds, AI, gameplay modifications, customized items.... Things made possible though LUA scripting.

Model-modding is trickier though due to the usage of Granny, that require a licence, if I've gotten my facts straight.

Looks like mods may be sanctioned...so we might not see a "nude" mod. Although thats at the bottom of my wish list anyway.

Frogboy just posted this in his latest dev journal for what's coming with v1.2 Eta August '09:

  • Modding Support:
    • 1. Quickie SDK that explains how to make maps
    • 2. Quickie SDK that explains how to make demigods
    • 3. Quickie SDK that explains how to make items
  • I'd love to hear from anyone at SD regarding what that translates in to... so there will be some dev kits, but can full blown maps be made from them, dgs, items, etc.  It sounds like yes, but I really don't know what to expect.

Maps are definitely the most exciting IMO.  New demigods and items will probably be put under strict scrutiny before being made official (until then, I think they only work on SP/Lan/possibly custom game), but new maps, particularly if symmetric, will probably be assessed more leniently.

I can't wait to see all the mod techies out there work their magic and breath some new inspiration into this game.  Though I truly love Demigod as is, who wouldn't highly anticipate new, user-created content?  The possibilities are [insert cliche here].

Most likely it means just making the very basic stuff neccesary available. I.e. you'll be doing lots of stuff manually, but it'll be possible at least.

Thanks for the clarification.  Exciting stuff.

Anything is possible, as seen by Chirmaya in this thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/359230

However making the maps is the real tricky part.  Creating the massive backdrops to the area's you can walk and simply the map itself.

Our BIG problem is actually that all the maps are created in Granny 3D & that costs about $10k :(
