Helping WC Community Members

Helping WC Community Members

Over the last couple of weeks we have had some negative drama on WinCustomize.  The weather widget alone has caused a ton of frustration alone, so I wanted to do something to bring some positive vibes to WC, and to show that we are a community.

Since the economy is in a bad situation, I know we have many members on WC who have been hit with very hard times.  Trying to help someone who has lost a job for instance can be difficult, but I do know things like hobbies and friends can make a difference in attitude, which is a big step in moving again in the right direction.

I wanted to put an offer out there for people that might want to help other members with a WC subscription or even software gifts.  There are people here who would like to contribute to the community, and we would like to give a helping hand in getting them started if they can’t do it on their own.

I’m going to start the ball rolling by offering 2 WinCustomize subscriptions for two people who are not current subscribers.  Just tell us in 50 words or less why you would like to have a WC subscription, and what the community means to you.  You need not give any personal details about your situation if you wish, I would just like to hear how skinning and the community might help you in general.

If there are any other community members that would like to help, I would recommend gifting applications to someone which is easily done in Impulse.  Perhaps an upcoming skinner that needs a full version of WindowBlinds for instance, instead of relying on the trial or friends to test, for instance.  If you would like to do that, you can PM me with details.

The first time I visited the internet this was the first site I visited after I figured out that there was more than my Yahoo front page and arranging the boxes.

My first computor was a Commodore C-64 and learned some basic language and after a few months my drive took a dump.

I went 20 years without a computer and bought a simple E-machine and that's when I discovered the internet and this site which I love and so many talented people.

Not only has the economy hit me hard but contacting Necrotizing fasciitis (Flesh eating bacteria) didn't help matters (medical bills piling up), that is why I would love to have a free subscription only because money is tight and really have to watch where it goes.

I didn't mean for this to sound like a sob story but what would really help me right now is, I just downloaded a theme but cannot open it and was wondering if there is something else I need to get started and if so would it be free.

Sorry for the long rant but would like to get back in the community if someone could steer me in the right direction to maybe just get a skin to work on my pc:)

Tex, was it a WindowBlind theme? Or a DesktopX theme?

It would help us to know that.

Free subscription to WinCustomize? Or an Object Desktop subscription?

Maybe this might help?

Thank you Uvah and Redneck, I only get download options for icon, desktopx, logon, and windowfx...I think it was windowblinds that i liked, where your window would open like curtains.

I'm going to download desktopx and windowfx and see what they do...thx again for responses, every forum I have ever joined you may or may not get a response and usually was weeks later:)

Installed windowblinds, do I need to uninstall to try others so they don't conflict?
They all work together, Tex.

WindowBlinds allows you to roll up your open window like a set of blinds.

If I remember correctly, that was the only thing the original version did.

Wow, you must be ancient....X|

On some skins if you double click on the top of the frame it will roll up. I like that feature and am glad it was kept.

Yep, I'm from the Ancient Geek period.

Wasn't that before starkers time? Before the atmosphere got all smelly and stuff.

Yeah well I’ve always liked hanging with ancient geeks, if my light shone a little brighter I would be one. o_O :P

Originally the two REAL advantages of Windowblinds [other than aesthetics - of course] was the 'roll-up' to only show the top bar...and the 'pin' which controlled the z-order of the window....putting it on top of anything else...even when focus changed.

By round about Windowblinds 1.0 you also had a configurable menu drop-down to launch other proggies of your choice....and an addon to also provide WinAMP controls directly on each top bar...;)
