RELEASE: New naval-style ships

Hi all,

I made a new ship-pack, naval-style again. Since the library upload is still down, I created this threat to provide download links and pictures. I will put them in the library as soon as the upload is up again.

The pack contains 42 ships - 18 warships (in 4 sets), 21 utility ships based on cargo, small and tiny hulls and 3 support ships intended for carrying fleet modules.

Here is a low-res .jpg of all the included ships for quick overview:

You can download the ship-pack here:

Alternative link:

Please check the included readme file for detailed installation instructions and additional info.

Essentials:
- they are for ToA only
- they are Metaverse-compatible
- they use the Terran ship style

Now on to the ships...

Let's start with the first warship set. This is the medium one:

The silhouette of the large one reminds me of the WW2 Lexington-class carriers somehow, so in my first game using her the lead ship will be called UES Saratoga: :)

And now the huge one:

I will post more pics during the next couple of days...

For the second warship set I attached some of the sharp and pointy parts to the usual hull. Medium:

Though this set is arguably the weakest of the warship sets, I like the huge one a lot:

Some utility ships (cargo hulls). A freighter:

The sensor ship:

This transport is not really naval-style, but nevertheless looks cool and mean IMO:

They are simply glorious!

I may have to figure out just how to do the download stuff, just to use them in my games!

For some utility ships it is a good idea to use hulls smaller than the cargo one (as soon as you have researched the needed miniaturization), since they are cheaper and quicker to build. This generally applies when speed is not an issue and you don't have to put engines on the ship.

A typical case are the spore ships. Cargo hull:

Small hull:

Tiny hull:

In the ship-pack there are similar sets for colony ships, constructors and space miners.

The third warship set. For this one I wanted to build ships with the bridge at the stern and the engines on the sides. I'm quite pleased with the result. Large hull:

Long and flat, almost reminds me on a super star destroyer. Huge hull:

@ Croc411, This is your ship from DA that I like so much had to tranfered it to ToA, but when I did, the engines were so warp and missing parts, I had to spend 4 to 6 hours getting it to look this, a Spore-Killer Frigate. It is not like your orginal but I did my best  so what do you think?

The FFk-Hp-Flare-No is armed with 1 Beam weapon and 1 Shield defense and 2 Stellar Warp Engines and carries 1 spore module. I have to where it travels with a pack of 15 ships and a Command ship that has +3 to fleet speed Warp Bubble. It is a fast killer of planets.

Just tested the upload system and it appears to be working perfectly.

This is the old 01 corvette, right?

Well, considering how bad those ships were messed up by the transition to ToA you did a pretty good job fixing her. The parts at her nose look a bit small, but I guess this is intentional.

Fourth warship set. Here I tried a more rounded hull shape, the "submarine look". Medium:

The huge one is probably my favourite of all my designs so far. Somehow she has written "battleship" all over her:

@ Croc411 Oh yes, it is 01 corvette to I changed it to frigate class

Thank you |-) I didn't mess all that much with the nose, I  only adjusted it to set in my beam weapons and now looking at, you are right, I guess I was more worried about getting the engines to look right than the nose. Messed up is a nice phrase for what happened. I really did like that old style. If you fixed those old ships for TA, I would delete all of mine and use yours ;)

The sub look is on the money so very nice job and my question is are these ready to be down load and where may I know.

You have any tips on how to place weapons or engines?

Well, I PLAN to fix them eventually. But I can't promise anything. Rebuilding an existing ship from scratch is such a huge pain-in-the-ass...

Like all the ships of which I posted pics here, they are in the ship-pack this very thread is about (and that you downloaded already, I suppose).

You have any tips on how to place weapons or engines?

When I use pre-made ships in a game I generally make weapons the smaller the bigger the ship is. So that on large and huge ships they are barely visible (I mean those ships are supposed to look BIG, right?)

For engines I let them fully or partially disappear into the hull most of the time. All pre-made ships I know of are designed to look good without visible functional engines.

Thank you for your tips

Nice ships - very 'realistic' looking with minimal forward profiles and so on.

This is good stuff!

Sorry to resurrect this 2 year old thread, but I recently downloaded and started using this ship pack and I just have to say they are magnificent!  Each ship is beautiful, and I like the great range of ship types provided.

I have a question:

How to use downloaded ship designs?

There's a readme in the zip file that tells which directories to put the unzipped files in.  In my case I wanted to use them as templates, so I put them in  Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor\shiptemplates

Once they've been unzipped into the proper directory, start a new game.  When you want to design a new ship, click on the Templates tab, select the ship you want, and click on "Use".  That will then put you in the ship designer with the ship showing all the attachments points.

Just got to say how much I love these ships their amazing, one thing though I'm going through adding the components to each of the templates but I'm not sure what to use on which. Would any one happen to have a guide of what components, engines and weapons to equip for each ship?

@The_Pet

What would you like to know then I can help? Please Ask. I don't have a guide per say but I do know somethings about on what components you can equip for your ships. You need to what that role of your ship is first. (Short Range) Mercury Class Intercepters have 1 to 4 beam weapons, 1 to 2 beam sheilds and 1 engine, no snesors and no life support because they are based at a planet or on a fleet carrier.
