Man, this is a such a paradox, neither, cause you either change the course of your future self's future or you mess up yourself. Sure going back in time, I am sure the FBI, CIA, etc would, and stop 911 or people go back before the economic crisis. but that will in affect yourself when you came back to the present or it will be a different world.

or know what you will become and maybe change it for good or for evil.

time is one of those things you don't medle with along with your taxes.

I know that , but putting that all aside and ignoring the parodox arguments that are ever so abundant when discussing this...what would it be and why. Don't think time.

I go forward in time, get winning lotto numbers, come back and enter!

Or, go back in tiime to 1994 and tell myself to get a haircut and stop listening to heavy metal.

back in time, because I'd know what to expect giving me an upper hand against all others.  Also, I like to mess with people.  (go back in time and play with a gameboy in 1980, or even better, 1950, for example)

Back in time - easier to reflect on past mistakes and how they could've been avoided than to guess at future ones and how to position yourself to benefit best. Also going forward in time could potentially mean aging more (depending on whether it's a 'fast-forward/rewind' or a 'time-jump' movement, hence meaning less time to live, or conversely more time to live if you go back in time. The knowledge of future events from going back in time is also incredibly valuable - you could make enough money to do whatever you want just by going back a couple of days, for example, and while money may not be everything, it certainly can help!

That said, if talking about a 'time-jump' over a significant period of time (say 50+ years) I'd prefer to go forward in time since it's likely economic conditions would continue their steady upward progress, and coupled with various new technological innovations much more would likely be possible.

I'd go forward in time, achieve immortality, and then go a ways back in time so that I can observe history for what it was instead of how it was recorded.
