Oiy, this is going to prove my geekiness. Voyager's warp nacelles were designed to move to create a more efficient warp field and thus help to curb the damage done to the space time contiuum from normal warp engines (TNG Episode "Force of Nature #160).

The nacelles, through moving, allowed to ship to go over the "Interstellar Speed Limit" of Warp 5.

*Correction - The nacelles didn't "allow" the ship to move over warp 5, they just made it possible for the ship to not damage space - time above warp 5.*

Imho, DS9 was the weakest of all the shows - it was so...un-Star Trekkie. Still, we can't change history..sadly. Lmao

I

Aaaaagh.....heresy! :D

DS9 the WEAKEST out of the lot? You cant be serious! If you look on the trektoday forums, you will find out that DS9 is in contrary considered by the majority of the trekkies there as the best one (talking about the TNG-DS9-VOY-ENT lineup, TOS excluded)...and there are pretty good reasons for that:

- best and most developed characters (especially those villain ones :) )

- best acting (especially O´Brien, Kira, Odo, Quark, Garag, Gul Dukat, Damar and Weyoun, forgive me if i forgot someone)

- the "darkest"  and perhaps most believable background story

- for sure best space battles (Way of the Warrior, Call to Arms, Sacrifice of Angels, Tears of the Prophets...)

- lots of high quality "filler" episodes (Duet, Visitor, Its only paper moon, etc...)

Personally i loved all the shows, even enjoyed some much criticised Enterprise (though i saw only the last season of this), but IMHO DS9 was really the best.

I personally loved DS9. It's by far my favorite. I think that the first couple of seasons started off a bit slow, and towards the end of the second season, some of the storylines were getting a little blandish. With the addition of the Defiant however, at least for me, things started getting better and better. The inclusion of the DW was perhaps my most favorite part. They didn't just throw it in there as a filler. It really became the background for at least 3 full seasons of the show.

I'm an original Trekker... I was 5 when The Man Trap premiered, and I remember it vividly... scared the hell out of me and I was instantly hooked.

After that I think my favorite was DS9.  I was already burned out on TNG, and Deep Space was so different, so dark.  I know it turned off a lot of people, but I needed a change and I found I liked this one a lot.

Voyager just went back to the same old "livin' on a ship" theme week after week.  They could have done so much more with it, but the producers were wimps, plain and simple, with no new ideas.  If it were me Voyager would have looked much darker than DS9... you're lost on the other side of the galaxy for Gods sake... it should have been brutal!!!

You know what I would have liked to see?  Who besides Kirk in the original series got his own ship?  Think fast...

Sulu!  Sulu was given command of the Excelsior, remember???  I want to see a movie or series about how this all happened, and then afterwards.  Why hasn't anyone done that???  Am I the only one to see a good movie waiting to happen???

Ok ! I´m new ! German ! Not involved in all topics and diskussions.

But, before i´m going to comment the opinions above:

I´m very proud of the things you`re evolving !

I loved playing the first SOA Versions and i can`t wait playing the new ones. You`re my Star Trek Gods ! ;-)

Especially the Graphics, the dynamic movement, the authenticity(?right?) and the balancing (in my opinion) make this mod a professional one.

Thanks a lot for all the good work and many ours of playing and feeling like a star trek admiral !

My comment to the diskussion above:

I think, you`re diskussing about the wrong questions. I loved watching Star Trek in all versions all my lifetime, sure, some were greater than the others, but: authenticity (if the word is the right one ;-)) is a keyword for me.

As i see, things are going very right with this mod and i hope, the developers of the mod will not get far away from this line. I think, it`s the right way, to integrate all issues from the movies an series as they´ve been created by the people who created this Universe. That doesn`t mean, that interpretation or other changes arent`t possible. But i think, if you get too far away from "reality" (movies and so on...), the authenticity isn`t there any more. At that point, for me, it doesn`t matter if Janeway`s been a man or not, or if the Intrepid should be able to colonize a world or not, it`s important for the ship to be in the mod and to take part in gameplay.

I especially always loved the ships of the romulan empire. I`m looking forward to get control of these d`deridex-monsters ;-) !

I think, a good mod get`s it`s magic from the connection between seen pictures (movies, series, and so on) an the possibility to make decisions on your own. If you love intrepid class ships, build only intrepid`s ! :-D^^

I´ll build d´deridex, nexorans and hopefully ONE scimitar ? Is it planned to get the scimitar in the mod ?

Love you all,

Michael

The Scimitar, just like the Prometheus, are among what we consider uber-ships. Therefore no, the Scimitar will not be in the mod.

i think it is important to keep a certain time line with the ships as well so you research the ships sort of in the time they were developed and since the intrepid is a relatively new ship it makes no sence to be able to build it b4 a mirander or ambassidor if ya get me

Its not gonna be buildable before the miranda, or ambassador because afaik you dont need research to build the prior. Jay is doing the research so once i get the final entity manifest ill know for sure. In soa 2_os it is a tier 4 research (same as the the original sins slot it is filling).

I dont "hate" voyager. Any trek is good trek, but some trek is better than others. Voyager suffered from the same problem enterprise did, and in some cases DS-9. That was very bad writing, and storytelling.

I was gonna post yesterday that i got all the 0.4e balance stats into soa2_os before the forum decided to go apeshit. It certainly plays different from 0.4e since the ships come to a screeching halt and turn broadsides, Nothing i can do about that since original sins doesnt support dynamic movement. Still fun to play though.

In responce to earlier post about the ships drifting out of the grav wwells. We know about it, and we know why it does it. Again with the stats we are using there may not be much we can do since dynamic movemnt is a simple true or false flag. The rest is in the hardcode which we cant touch, We dont want to play around with the speeds and ranges too much or we break the balancing. Some micro will be in order to keep ships in the wells. a simple stop, order a new attack, or cancel order will reset the ships.

Well I don't think that this will go over well because it will not be true to Star Trek (from my VERY limited knowledge of it) but if you can have the torps and/or phasers fire from the rear of the ship it wouldn't be much of a problem.  I realize the phasers can shoot backwards, not sure if it is the same damage output as if the enemy were sitting in front though.

Is it possible, or even adivisable to have the bigger ships NOT use the dynamic movement and just sit there like lumbering giants but still have the smaller ships use the dynamic movement?

Kinda destroys the whole idea of dynamic movement IMO, but when the Borg EVENTUALLY make their appearance, most of their ships will not have the movement (which is all cannonical if you ask me) :borg: .

I also don't see any reason to allow ships to fire torpedos aft (since that was mainly a federation thing, and they already have a big enough advantage being able to fire their phasers almst 360).  Though it does fit cannon, all the hardpoints for weapons on the ships have hardcoded firing arcs that just aren't limited enough to consider allowing for this.  It might be good as a special ability, but that's about the extent of it.

Well I don't think that this will go over well because it will not be true to Star Trek

You will find everyone has their own point of view on what is "true" to Star Trek. Just read back on all the heated debates on the 1900+ someodd pages here alone ( the 2000+ on the old topic ). I am just making a mod, and trying to get it "close". I said from day one that it is not going to be 100% cannon, or "perfect". Some aspects are gonna be way in left field just so the mod will work. Some things we are making up as we go along. There are some things about modding in sins you just cant do. Not without re-writing the game engine itself. If i could do that do you honestly think i would be modding this game?

All of the "small" ships in 0.4e have dynamic movement. The big ships like the Borg cube may not because of their size. Despite using half scale for supersized units they still take up a huge chunk of the grav well, and are more of an obsticle than a target.

Most ships in trek have "some" aft firing weapons. The ones that dont usually are nimble ships.

The original sins mod has no dynamic movement because it is hardcoded. Dynamic movement was added at modders request to Entrenchment. Which is one of the reasons why we switched to modding entrenchment in the first place. I thought Manshooter made his dynamic battle system mod for original sins but i cant seem to find it if he did.

No, ManSh00ter's DBS is for Entrenchment.

Ok so 0.4e is taking forever, and a day to get done, but fear not. I released a build for original Sins to tide you guys over till this gets done. So a new topic will form from it, and the upcoming diplomacy version if we chose to do it.

As of now this topic is officially CLOSED.

Look for the new mod topic here https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/371686

Question:

Will the original empires be playable when the newest version is released?

Also, I have the Star Wars Requim mod. Could I still use that when using this mod?

Thanks you guys are awesome!
