Need help setting up a Gaming account on Vista

OK, so I bought a copy of ObjectDesktop Ultimate and it came with that cool program TweakVista and would like to take advantage of its features to play my online games better.

What I need? I need help setting up a second account on my laptop just for gaming.

My goal? To eliminate any unnecessary services and progams so that I can have every GB of memory possible.

What do I have? I have an HP Pavillion with an Intel Core 2 Duo, 3 GBs of Memory, anVidia 8600S videocard and Vista Home Premium. Windoes rates my PC as a 4.5

What I play? The Call of Duty series mostly.

I tried doing this before and did not seem to be doing it right. It was as if any changes I did with TweakVista would affect both the main and gaming accounts. Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated. Any alternative softwares anyone can recommend to help will also be appreciated.

I was under the impression you could simply create another admin account, and make the necessary changes under that one.

I did but some of the changes I do under that account tend to affect the other account. I thought any changes I do to one account, say turn off unnecessary services for gaming, would only be limited to that account and that if I logged into the other it would be the way i had it before.

Does the Tweak Vista thing actually work decently? or does it just make slight changes?

You might want to give Iobit a look. They make Advanced System Care and Smart Defrag, which are excellent. They make an app called Game Booster that does just the thing you are looking for. It will free up RAM and shut down unneeded background services easily and turn them on again when you are done gaming.  LINK

I have ASC. Though I'd rather use Stardocks software for it ;P

After you make the new admin account did you logoff the main admin account before logging into your new games admin account and changing settings for it or even ideally reboot into your new games admin account - doing that should only affect settings in that account when you set them up. Just switching user keeps both accounts active. Game Booster is good though too.

So realistically since i already have ASC with GameBooster, there is no point in me swapping it out for TweakVista?

If I recall correctly,TweakVista doesn't really do anything that Vista can't already do itself. The benefit is that you can get to these settings and adjustments far easier  and they are all in one place, instead of scattered or hidden by the OS.

Rather than "swapping out" one for the other, both can be useful for what they are designed to do. Vista has a lot of services running that are unneeded for general use and/or gaming. Overall performance will benefit from turning off the ones you'll never use or setting some to manual rather than automatic. Put both programs to good use and your computer will be happier for it.

Thanks, also i'm assuming that I do not need the Object Dock program for this or do I?

Correct,OD is just one way to launch the programs. The start menu or desktop icon will also do it.(but with far less style);)

Thanks for all the great responses.

I don't reboot the PC but I do log out of one account before logging into the other. I can't stand leaving one active only to have to go in to log out when shutting down. I figured if you can log out then log back in to the other, that should be good enough, otherwise whats the point of having the option. I will do more testing and give the reults tonight or tomorrow. Thanks again.
