Heading For Lubbock

I'm in Elk City, OK tonight, which is near the OK/TX line. Tomorrow morning I'll head on into TX, cut South in Amarillo, and deliver a fire truck in Lubbock.

Thankfully it seems the severe heat wave of the past week or so has abated and the temps have returned to the "normal" range. It was pretty damn hot until today. Friday it was in the 90s up in WI, which is very high for this time of year. Those poor folks were sweltering.

I'm hoping that they will have a reload lined up for me pretty quickly after delivering so I can get rolling again without too much sitting around. On the flip side, I do need to do laundry so if there is some waiting time at least I can put it to good use.

Business hasn't exactly been booming lately, although it has improved slightly over a month or so ago. Still a long way to go before my income gets close to what it was before the recession hit.

I'm staying in a cheap motel tonight although I can't really afford it. I just wanted to get out of the truck and relax for a bit. I think having been out for six months straight is started to wear on me. Until the income picks up though, I just can't afford to take time off.

Ah well, perhaps a good night's sleep tonight will recharge my batteries. Tomorrow I'll get myself some good Texas BBQ brisket, that always picks me up a bit. Yum, yum.

I've had dinner but feel the need for something sweet. I think I'll check out the snack machine and see what's available in the way of munchies.

Oh, by the way, I am already sick to death of hearing about Michael Jackson. He's dead. Let it go already.

Wasn't it Mac Davis who sang "Happiness is Lubbock in my Rearview Mirror?"

And it's true too. After delivering there I called dispatch and told them I was heading back to Amarillo as I wasn't spending the night in Lubbock. I'm now in a motel in Amarillo. Special trucker's rate of $27/night including tax plus a free beer at the bar next door. Can't beat that deal. It isn't the Hilton, but it's ok.

And another thing, any town that names their airport after someone who died in a plane crash makes me wonder...even if he was one hell of a rocker.

Sounds like a good deal on the rooms in Yellowtown.  Ever stay at Sierra Sid's in Sparks.  They had some good rates back in the day.  My favorite was the Best Western in Wendover, they gave ya an apartment-sized room (three rooms actually) and a book of coupons worth a bunch at the Casino...was it the Stateline?  Having a senior moment here.

A lot of them no longer have those deals. They've gone up pretty much like everything else.
