Galaxy Forge Questions

I was considering downloading Galaxy Forge today along with SoaSE: v.1.17 and Ent. v.1.03... but then I noticed that it isn't compatable with these two, does that mean I can't get it?

Some other misc. questions:

Can you control where the Artifacts and Planet bonuses are, or no?

Can you control which system (on a multi-star map) you start in?

Can you control the amount of resource asteroids per planet?

Finally, can you control where wormholes lead to?

Thx- Koda0 (^)

I don't use Galaxy Forge myself, so I'm not sure on the version stuff but:

You can assign artifacts to specific planets. I don't think you can assign specific bonuses, though.

Yes, you set player start points.

I don't think Galaxy Forge can specifically set the numer of resource rocks - it's part of the planet entity files.

You can control wormhole links, but I'm not sure if they ever added linking wormholes between star systems. You used to have to do it manually because GF didn't know how to.

Hmmm... thx, Annatar, I guess I'll have to download it now to see, especially now that I know what it can and can't do.

annatar's advice is correct, but the galaxy forge 3 is for mapversion 3 version of sins ie 1.15/entrenchment1.0 and later.

the inter star wormholes can be set up if gf3, and I have done exactly that in several of my personal maps

Okay, guess I'm gonna have to rally up the support team... just downloaded Galaxy Forge and the update, didn't work (as expected).

koda0 here is the same instructions that I have been giving out since entrenchment came out

first you will want/need a either or both winrar and 7zip to extract files then download and extract the entire contents of  galaxy forge from the sins download page in to a folder on you computer

assuming you have sins 1.17/entrenchment 1.03,  the galaxy forge maps NEED to be placed here for xp
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

or here for vista/windows 7
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge.

NOTE the first two folders after the 'user name' are hidden , so to see them you must first click on 'tools' then 'folder options', then 'view', then click on 'show hidden files& folders' then click ok, then you will be able to browse your want to the folder. I suggest when you find the folder that you create a shortcut to it on the desktop

also the galaxy forge maps only show up in the galaxy forge tab of map types

and if a map you want to play was released before 25th feb 2009 then you will also neet the sins map updater from here

Okay, one LAST question (I hope) I successfully downloaded it onto my comp., but whenever I try to open it, a pop-up comes up saying:

Windows cannot open this file:

File: GalaxyForge.3.rar

To open this file, Windows needs to know what program you want to use to open it.  Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select from a list of programs that are installed on your computor.

What do you want to do?

* Use the Web service to find the correct program

* Select a program from a list of installed programs.

As a side note, I have Vista, if that helps.
